About Fundamental

Fundamental is an AI company pioneering the future of enterprise decision-making. Founded by DeepMind alumni, Fundamental has developed NEXUS – the world's most powerful Large Tabular Model (LTM) – purpose-built for the structured records that actually drive enterprise decisions. Backed by world class investors and trusted by Fortune 100 companies, Fundamental unlocks trillions of dollars of value by giving businesses the Power to Predict.

At Fundamental, you'll work on unprecedented technical challenges in foundation model development and build technology that transforms how the world's largest companies make decisions. This is your opportunity to be part of a category-defining company from the ground-up. Join the team defining the future of enterprise AI.

About the role

Fundamental is seeking a Forward Deployed Full-Stack Engineer to build the critical integration layers and interfaces that allow our customers to adopt NEXUS.

The Forward Deployed Engineer is an integral part of our FDE team, dedicated to driving the successful deployment of Fundamental products. While our ML engineers focus on the model performance, you will focus on usability, integration, and system reliability. You will work hand-in-hand with customers from the Proof of Value stage to post-implementation, ensuring our solutions are not just accurate, but accessible, secure, and seamlessly embedded in the client's production workflow. In this role, you’ll manage technical relationships with multiple stakeholders (IT security, application owners, and business users) and function as a key bridge, translating field requirements into features for our platform roadmap.

Key responsibilities
  • You’ll individually architect and build production-grade applications that wrap our core models, turning projects into intuitive, high-value user experiences

  • You’ll lead the last mile engineering efforts, handling API integration, data visualization, and authentication/security requirements (SSO, RBAC) within complex enterprise environments (VPC, on-prem, air-gapped)

  • You’ll design and implement performant backend services to ingest customer data and serve model predictions at scale, ensuring low latency and high availability

  • You’ll work in collaboration with our research and product teams to translate operational friction - such as data ingestion difficulties or UI gaps - into essential inputs for the Fundamental roadmap

  • Your collaboration with the Sales and Solution Architect teams will help align diverse stakeholders, building dashboards and tools that allow business users to inspect, trust, and act on predictions

Must have
  • You hold a BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • You have 5+ years as a Full-Stack Engineer, with a track record of shipping production code in complex environments

  • You have deep proficiency in modern frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript, Next.js) and data visualization libraries (D3.js, Recharts, or similar)

  • You have strong experience with backend development (Python/FastAPI, Go, or Node.js) and database design (PostgreSQL, Redis)

  • You have experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines

  • You are comfortable navigating enterprise security constraints and have experience integrating with identity providers (LDAP, SAML, OIDC)

  • You hold strong communication skills with an ability to translate architectural nuances into clear business value for non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have
  • Experience building tools for Data Science or ML workflows (e.g., labeling interfaces, model monitoring dashboards)

  • Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)

  • Experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Technical Consultant in a B2B software company

  • Familiarity with data processing frameworks (Pandas, PySpark) to better collaborate with our ML counterparts

Benefits
  • Competitive compensation with salary and equity

  • Comprehensive health coverage for you and your dependents, including medical, dental, vision, and 401K

  • Paid parental leave for all new parents, inclusive of adoptive and surrogate journeys

  • Relocation support for employees moving to join the team in one of our office locations

  • A mission-driven, low-ego culture that values diversity of thought, ownership, and bias toward action
