About Plymouth Street

Our mission is to enable the best builders in the world to build in the U.S., no matter where they were born. We build technology that helps Silicon Valley's fastest-growing companies, incubators, and investors navigate immigration. More than half of Silicon Valley startups have at least one immigrant founder – and only by bridging the gap between talent and opportunity can we power innovation. Read more here, here, and here.

The Role

As our founding Full Stack Engineer, you'll drive Plymouth's technical direction while remaining deeply hands-on. You'll architect the product, ship features daily, and build the engineering function as the company grows. You'll help decide what we build, how we build it, and eventually who builds it.

Our stack today includes Ruby on Rails, Typescript, React, Node, and Postgres, on infrastructure across Render and AWS.

You’ll take ownership of an established production application and services, improving and extending the existing codebase while delivering new features and exploring new product offerings. This includes refining existing functionality, refactoring parts of the system, designing and implementing AI-powered capabilities, integrating third-party services, and continuously improving our engineering practices.

What You'll Own
  • Own Plymouth's technical direction while designing, building, testing, and shipping software across the full stack.

  • Partner with the founder on product direction and turn ambiguous problems into shipped features.

  • Build the engineering organization over time – whether that's managing external partners, hiring engineers, or both.

  • Own performance, reliability, and scalability across the product.

Who You Are
  • 4+ years building production software, with experience leading significant technical projects or teams.

  • Strong across React, Node.js, Postgres, and modern cloud infrastructure.

  • Fluent with AI-assisted development (Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) and thoughtful about where these tools create leverage.

  • Comfortable setting technical direction while staying close to the code.

  • Humble, intrinsically motivated, and willing to own whatever the business needs.

  • Strong communicator who enjoys collaborating across functions.

Bonus:

  • Experience building AI/LLM-powered products or taking products from zero to one.

  • Experience with Python.

  • Experience leading engineers or coordinating external/contract teams.

  • Background in security and compliance, or working with operations teams to drive efficiency.

  • Experience in the immigration domain.

Why Join Now

Plymouth is still small enough that one person can fundamentally shape the trajectory of the company, but established enough to work with many of Silicon Valley's fastest-growing startups from day one. You'll have real ownership, direct access to the founder, and the opportunity to shape both the company and your role as we grow.
