Founding Paralegal

Job Summary

We're hiring a Founding Paralegal to build and run the systems underneath Build's legal function. The role reports to the Founding Legal Counsel.

Build operates through entities, employees, contractors, partners, and collection networks in a growing number of countries. Every one of them generates records that must exist, be current, and be findable: statutory filings and registers, signed agreements, consent forms, engagement letters, corporate approvals, registrations, and renewals. When a customer runs diligence, a regulator asks a question, or a country goes live on a deadline, the answer depends on whether that record was captured correctly the first time.

You will own that layer. You will build the contract, entity, and compliance systems from nothing, keep every jurisdiction current against a calendar you own, and run the mechanics that would otherwise consume the legal function's time — leveraging AI seamlessly and exhaustively so the work scales quickly and efficiently.

This is not a document-routing job. You are a strategic partner. Your mission is to ensure that what Build believes to be true about its paper actually is.

Key Responsibilities

• Own contract administration end to end, including intake, templates, versioning, execution, signature workflows, first-pass review against approved playbooks, and the contract repository

• Maintain international entities and corporate records, including statutory filings, officers and directors, approvals, notarization and legalization, and annual renewals

• Own the global compliance calendar and drive every filing, registration, and renewal to completion

• Own the consent library across countries, including versions, translations, deployment, and supporting records

• Administer outside counsel operations across firms and countries, including engagements, matters, invoices, and spend

• Conduct first-pass legal and regulatory research and organize findings for attorney review

• Build and automate legal systems and workflows so the function scales

• Drive legal projects across Operations, Finance, Data Scaling, Engineering, and Manufacturing

You may be a good fit if you have (Must-have qualifications)

• 5+ years of paralegal experience, including in-house experience

• Corporate and entity experience: formations, registrations, statutory filings, corporate records, and working with registered agents and local service providers

• Hands-on contract administration experience, including building or running a repository, template set, and signature process

• Have run a compliance or filing calendar across multiple entities and not missed deadlines

• Exceptional attention to detail, strong written communication and research skills, and good judgment about when to solve something yourself or when a lawyer needs to make the call

• Comfortable building the system while using it — this is Build's first paralegal role, not a seat inside an established legal department, and it is in San Francisco in person

Strong candidates may also have experience with (Nice-to-have qualifications)

• Senior paralegal experience at a startup or rapidly growing technology company

• International entity formation and maintenance across China, India, Southeast Asia, LATAM, or Africa, and coordination with foreign counsel and corporate service providers

• Apostille, consular legalization, and cross-border document logistics at volume, or a notary commission

• Data privacy, consent, cross-border transfer, or data-provenance workflows

• Venture-backed company governance, financings, cap tables, investor diligence, or M&A diligence

• EOR, contractor, marketplace, or distributed-workforce operations

• Building legal operations, contract-management, entity-management, or compliance systems from scratch
