This role involves owning full-cycle technical recruiting, building sourcing strategies, and designing interview processes at BackOps, focusing on attracting exceptional technical talent.
About BackOps
Supply chain operations are some of the most complex, high-stakes workflows in any business — and for too long, the teams running them have had to hold it together manually. Missed shipments, cascading exceptions, hours of coordination that pulls people away from the work that actually moves the business forward. The infrastructure hasn't kept up with the complexity.
BackOps is changing that. We build agentic AI that automates the operational work that supply chain teams have always had to do by hand — not by wrapping AI around legacy tools, but by rethinking the infrastructure from the ground up.
We're ~30 people, headquartered in San Francisco, and backed by investors who support category-defining companies early and with conviction: our Series A was led by Theory Ventures, with participation from Gradient, Construct Capital, and 10VC. The problem is real, the timing is right, and we're building the team that will define how this space evolves.
If you want to do work that matters, with people who take ownership seriously, at a company where what you build becomes the foundation — keep reading.
The Role
We're hiring our first in-house recruiter — and we're looking for someone who's done this before. Not just filled roles, but helped build the engine: sourcing strategy, interview infrastructure, candidate experience, hiring manager partnerships — from scratch, at a company where every hire materially shapes what we become.
Technical hiring is where we need you most. Our engineering and product teams are growing, the competition for this talent is real, and we need someone who knows how to find, engage, and close exceptional technical candidates — especially the ones who aren't looking.
You'll report to the Head of People & Talent and operate as a true thought partner on how we build the team. You'll have real ownership over execution and process-building, with the support and strategic context to do it well.
What You'll Do
- Own full-cycle technical recruiting — from kickoff through close — across engineering, product, and adjacent technical functions
- Build and execute sourcing strategies that consistently surface high-caliber, often passive candidates
- Partner closely with hiring managers to define success profiles, calibrate the bar, and run structured, high-signal interview processes
- Design and iterate on the recruiting infrastructure: scorecards, interview loops, funnel metrics, and candidate experience
- Represent BackOps authentically to candidates — tell the story, build trust, and close with conviction
- Contribute to the broader recruiting strategy and headcount planning in partnership with the Head of People & Talent
- Lay the groundwork for a scalable hiring function as the team grows
What We're Looking For
- 4–7 years of full-cycle recruiting experience, with meaningful time spent at early-stage or high-growth startups
- Proven track record hiring technical talent — engineers, infrastructure, product — with a high and well-calibrated bar
- A relentless sourcer who knows how to hunt, not just manage inbound
- Experience building recruiting processes and tooling from the ground up, not just inheriting them
- High ownership mentality with strong collaboration instincts — you know when to lead and when to align
- Clear, compelling communicator who can represent a company's mission and culture with authenticity
- Comfortable managing multiple searches simultaneously without compromising quality or candidate experience
- Candidates based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco
Why BackOps
- Be the first in-house recruiter at a company redefining supply chain infrastructure with AI
- Real ownership over how we build our technical team — with the strategic support to do it well
- Backed by Theory Ventures, Gradient, Construct Capital, and 10VC
- Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and comprehensive benefits
