What is Automat?

Automat was founded by a diverse group of creative technologists from teams like Google Creative Lab, and Samsung’s innovation Think Tank Team. We envision a future where intelligent agents streamline business operations - and one day, run their own enterprises. We're redefining Enterprise Agentic Process Automation and Intelligent Document Processing to replace bulky and expensive Legacy RPA (Robotic Process Automation) solutions by developing the necessary tooling and infrastructure to incorporate the advancements of AI into practical, real-world applications.

We value creativity, pragmatism, collaboration, and impact above rigid requirements. If you're excited about AI Agents and automation, thrive in flexible, creative environments, and want to work on meaningful, pioneering projects alongside experienced entrepreneurs - this role is for you.

We encourage anyone to apply - we think talent, passion and your unique perspective can outweigh years of experience. We are really looking for someone who can hit the ground running on day one and contribute at a rapid pace, while also being someone from whom we ourselves can learn from.

The Role

We're looking for a product minded Senior Software Engineer who is excited about tackling ambiguous and often lofty engineering initiatives. We’re a small talented team who we can do more with less, and are looking for folks who want to own key portions of our product offering. You’ll have the opportunity to actively shape technical solutions, influence product direction, and contribute meaningfully to all aspects of our engineering culture.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with forward deployed engineers as they implement complex customer workflows, all while developing the scalable and robust core product infrastructure which makes their work possible. You’re perfect for this role if you appreciate an elegant balance between UX excellence and foundational scalability.

What You'll Do:

  • Work within our Core Engineering team to develop and expand our product suite, from our Enterprise grade Automat Studio, to our state of the art Agentic Workflow Builder and beyond.

  • Build interfaces which leverage cutting-edge computer use models to automate and accelerate real world Enterprise workflows across finance, banking, healthcare, e-commerce, and more.

  • Collaborate with our Forward Deployed Team to understand how customers interact with Automat’s platform today, and use those learnings to bolster our Agentic Workflow Builder and Developer Toolkit.

  • Develop beautiful and intuitive UX interfaces which abstract away complex business automation processes and create a seamless experience for non-technical users and engineers alike

  • Create robust, enterprise grade back-end infrastructure and services to power our Fortune 500 customers' workflows at scale

  • Influence our engineering practices, shape product direction, and contribute to building a world class company culture.

What drives you

  • Curiosity, creativity, and a relentless desire to learn and adapt to changing technologies

  • Working in fast-moving, collaborative teams made up of engineers with diverse backgrounds and skillsets who guide their own product initiatives from planning to implementation

  • Excitement about the power of rapidly developing with AI tools, with a healthy skepticism for their veracity

  • Turning highly sophisticated and technical systems into intuitive, delightful, human-friendly applications that abstract away difficult patterns and repetitive executions

What’s in your toolbox

  • Robust background building complex architectures from the ground up, ranging from hacked together prototypes to scalable enterprise solutions.

  • Pragmatic Hacker mindset - you know when to ship out functional v0 by any means necessary, and when to take a step back and consider the future tradeoffs before pressing merge

  • Experience building with modern web frameworks like Next.js and leveraging modern services like Supabase and Vercel to accelerate your work

  • You know how to set proper engineering guardrails, best practices, and elegant design plans to ensure AI Coding tools can do the rest.

What we are looking for

  • Top notch communication and collaboration skills

  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and wearing multiple hats

  • Extensive experience leveraging AI coding tools (e.g. Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, etc.)

  • Passion for creating intuitive, user-friendly experiences

  • Proactive mindset and high initiative, with a bias toward action

  • An intrinsic desire to leave things better than you found them

  • Experience as an IC in startups or other dynamic, high-growth setting
