As a Hardware Test and Integration Intern
Interns in this pipeline may be considered for opportunities across a range of teams and projects, including:
HW Stability & Integration: Build analytical and diagnostic tooling to help identify complex system issues, improve autonomy hardware stability, and support hardware debug through metrics, documentation, and system-level insights.
Manufacturing Test Engineering & Diagnostics: Develop test automation and diagnostic tools that support vehicle production, including software for end-of-line testers, camera test equipment, and improved electrical test coverage on the manufacturing floor.
Hardware Testing: Perform electrical stress testing, baseline characterization, and root cause analysis for Design Validation Test failures. Develop Python scripts to process large datasets (CSVs, CAN logs) for pattern recognition and risk identification, and contribute to testing infrastructure by designing and building custom test assets.
Program Requirements
- Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or other advanced degree in a relevant engineering field.
- Plan to return to school after completing the internship.
- Maintain good academic standing.
- Available to commit to a 6-month co-op.
- At least one prior industry internship, co-op, or relevant project experience.
- Willing and able to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship.
- Interns may not use proprietary Zoox information in university theses, publications, or share it outside of Zoox.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Python is required.
- Familiarity with electronics and hardware, including the ability to troubleshoot system-level issues using test equipment and data.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience using lab tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, power supply)Experience with building a PC
Bonus Qualifications
- Participation in engineering competitions (e.g., SAE, FIRST, DARPA, Solar Car)
- Exposure to vehicle or embedded communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, I2C, SPI, UART, and Ethernet through coursework, labs, or projects.
- Experience taking a custom PCBA or mechanical design from concept through fabrication and assembly
Compensation:
The monthly salary range for this position is $6,500 to $9,500. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level of education. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, and a housing stipend (relocation assistance will be offered based on eligibility).
