About the company

Our client is a hardware technology company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Take charge of designing, building and refining electronic devices that run reliably in demanding conditions. The first months focus on producing units to fill existing commitments, then the work shifts to enhancing fielded devices, creating new ones and helping steer what gets built next.

What you'll do

- Handle electronics work from circuit drawings and board layout through hands-on build and testing at the bench.

- Build and ship a batch of existing devices quickly to satisfy committed pilot deployments.

- Connect a range of sensing components to the boards, and manage power supply, connectors and housing fit.

- Write firmware and develop embedded systems on common microcontroller and single-board computer platforms.

- Refine devices already in the field using user feedback, and create additional sensors that work with the current system.

- Over time, take new prototypes from first concept to working firmware and contribute ideas on product direction.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Solid skills in PCB layout and schematic design.

- Practical experience integrating sensors into electronic designs.

- Background in embedded systems, microcontrollers and firmware.

- Comfort with soldering, wiring, assembly and bench testing.

- Understanding of power regulation, connectors and mechanical enclosures.

- Ability to take a product from nothing to working hardware and firmware.

- Complete ownership of personal projects, rather than only contributions to group efforts.

- Early-career or student status preferred, paired with substantial practical hardware experience gained through any route, including self-taught or freelance work.

- Receptive to direct feedback, values openness and is fully committed in a fast-paced setting.

- Eligibility to work on government-related projects.

Bonus points

- Exposure to rugged or demanding-environment products, such as industrial, robotic, vehicle or similar devices.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
