About Actian

Actian, a division of HCLSoftware, is the leader in data intelligence. We develop high-performance database technologies (including Ingres, Vector, and Zen) that power the world‚ most demanding industries.

About the Role

Actian is building the next generation of AI-ready data technologies, including VectorAI DB.

We are looking for a hands-on Head of Developer Growth to build and scale developer adoption from the ground up.

This is not a traditional DevRel role.

You will own developer acquisition, activation, engagement, and advocacy for developers building AI applications, RAG systems, agents, and modern data platforms.

You will work directly with product, engineering, support, and the broader marketing team to turn technical capabilities into developer adoption.

We want someone who understands how developers discover products today, where they spend time, what content they trust, and how to create growth loops that drive usage and community.

If you are looking for a hands-on, high impact role in a company that offers an amazing employee-first culture, this is the job for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build the developer acquisition programs from the ground up and establish repeatable growth channels.
  • Develop content strategies that drive developer discovery and product adoption, including technical tutorials, code examples, benchmark content, videos, AI-assisted content workflows, and SEO/AEO.
  • Identify and scale modern developer channels including developer newsletters, creator partnerships, technical communities, Reddit, Discord, Dev.to, Hacker News, GitHub, YouTube, and emerging AI-native channels.
  • Work directly with product, engineering and support teams to understand user journeys, remove onboarding friction, and improve activation rates.
  • Design and measure the complete developer funnel from awareness through product usage and expansion.
  • Build programs that convert developers into advocates through community, content, and product success.
  • Partner with sales and product teams to support the transition from product-led adoption into enterprise opportunities where appropriate.

Preferred Background

We care more about your demonstrated results than specific titles you have held. You may come from Developer Marketing, Developer Relations, Product Marketing, Growth Marketing, Developer Experience, Technical Content, or Developer Advocacy.

You should have several of the following:

  • Experience marketing technical products to developers.
  • Experience launching developer tools, APIs, SDKs, databases, infrastructure products, AI tools, cloud services, or open source projects.
  • Strong understanding of how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new technologies.
  • Experience building developer acquisition and activation programs.
  • Experience creating technical content personally, including tutorials, demos, documentation, videos, blogs, benchmark content, or code samples.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical concepts including databases, APIs, AI/ML systems, application development, vector search, RAG, agents, or cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience operating in early-stage, pre-product-market-fit, or category-creation environments is highly valued.
  • Experience building something yourself, whether software, open-source projects, technical content channels, communities, or startups, is highly valued.
  • Candidates should demonstrate curiosity and preparation. We expect finalists to understand Actian, our products, and our target developers before interviewing.

  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
