Lead and manage the company's litigation and dispute resolution matters including patent, commercial, brand protection, and general business litigation. Oversee the patent program, drive litigation strategy through pleadings, motions, discovery, arbitration or trial, and advise executives and the board.
Our client, a publicly-traded global technology company, is looking to hire a superstar Head of Litigation and IP to join its legal team. This person will report directly to the General Counsel and will be a visible leader at the company with significant interaction at the board and executive management levels. The company is located in San Jose, CA with a three days a week in-office requirement.
The attorney in this role will manage and lead the company’s litigation and dispute resolution matters, including patent, commercial, soft IP (including brand protection), and general business litigation matters. They will lead the company’s patent program and will manage brand protection matters. The company is undergoing an incredible transformation marked by rapid growth and a soaring stock price, and this person will have an exciting opportunity to be a foundational member of the legal team and help shape ongoing strategy.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 15+ years of legal experience directly managing high stakes litigation, including patent and general IP litigation, both at a law firm and in-house at an established hardware company
- Strong foundation in patent litigation (no technical degree required)
- Significant experience managing cases through pleadings, motion practice, discovery, dispute resolution, and arbitration or trial
- Strong critical thinking skills, strategic mindset and ability to see the big picture
- Ability to anticipate and address legal risks in business-centric ways by developing strategies to solve problems, while strengthening partnerships and business objectives
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills
- Executive presence
- Confidence and willingness to engage in constructive conflict
- Passion for the company and mission
This is an incredible opportunity to join a successful company, in a unique space, with a positive corporate culture and a strong executive management team. Compensation is targeted at a base salary range of $320-340K, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Base salary and overall compensation will be determined by several factors, including the candidate’s qualifications and years of directly relevant experience.
