The role / impact

You will lead the strategic narrative for Xero's two most critical audiences: Small Businesses and Accountants & Bookkeepers. In this twelve-month maternity cover role, you will be the primary architect of how Xero communicates its holistic platform value. Your work ensures our messaging shifts from a list of features to a benefit-led solution that connects and converts customers throughout their lifecycle.

You will lead and mentor a team of two Product Marketers, acting as the ultimate internal champion for these segments. Beyond segment ownership, you will act as a strategic craft lead for the broader Product Marketing organisation. You will be responsible for upleveling collective expertise in positioning, messaging, and differentiation, ensuring everyone is equipped with the latest research and best practices to keep Xero at the forefront of the market.

The team / how they connect

The Global Product Marketing team bridges the gap between global strategy and regional execution across key markets including Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. We work collaboratively with sales, product, and regional marketing squads to ensure alignment and adoption of our core messaging and tools. Together, we operate with a results-driven approach to advocate for the voice of the customer in cross-functional discussions.

The team is currently working on / Initially, you will focus on

  • Driving the overarching positioning and differentiation strategy for both the Small Business and Accountant & Bookkeeper segments.

  • Developing high-impact segment playbooks, audience personas, and messaging frameworks to support go-to-market success.

  • Overseeing in-depth competitive research and market analysis to uncover opportunities for growth.

  • Tracking and analysing the performance of segment-specific initiatives to iterate on narratives and optimize commercial outcomes.

  • Background leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing marketing professionals to support their professional growth.

  • Expert-level storytelling skills alongside deep mastery of modern positioning and messaging best practices.

  • An education mindset combined with a genuine passion for coaching and upleveling the discipline across an organisation.

  • Familiarity with the accounting, bookkeeping, or small business software ecosystem is highly desirable.

  • Exceptional communication skills that allow you to distill complex concepts into clear, engaging, human narratives.
