About Volta

Volta is the category-defining, fully vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform – from capital to clusters to software, under a founder-led enterprise. Our mission is The Utility of Compute™: AI infrastructure as dependable and available as electricity, for every organization that needs it. Launched with a $10B strategic partnership with one of the leading frontier AI labs, a Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, and a $5B AI Infrastructure Fund, Volta is building the infrastructure layer of the AI era from the ground up. We are 100+ people across London, Palo Alto, and New York, with rapid growth expectations to hundreds.

About The Role
We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to support the growth of our US employee population as Volta scales across the United States.

This is a hands-on HRBP role in a fast-moving, early-stage environment. You will partner with managers and employees across the US, supporting workforce planning, onboarding, employee relations, change management, performance management, policy implementation and day-to-day people matters.

You will be the trusted People partner for our US employees while operating as an integral member of our global People team. Working closely with the VP People and colleagues across the business, you will help build the scalable, compliant People foundations that enable a high-growth AI infrastructure company to succeed.

This role is ideal for someone who is commercial, pragmatic and solutions-focused—equally comfortable coaching a manager through a sensitive employee issue as rolling up their sleeves to design a process that doesn't yet exist.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with US leaders and managers on workforce planning, employee relations, performance, engagement and organizational change

  • Provide practical HR guidance on federal, state and local employment legislation, with particular emphasis on California employment law

  • Foster an inclusive, engaging and high-performing workplace, supporting the overall employee experience for US-based employees

  • Coach managers on performance management, feedback, employee development and difficult conversations

  • Implement HR policies, processes and programs in the US, aligned with global standards and best practices

  • Partner with the wider People team on compensation, benefits and equity programs

  • Work closely with Payroll, Finance and Legal to ensure compliant and effective employment practices

  • Continuously improve People processes to ensure they remain scalable, compliant and fit for a rapidly growing organization

  • Drive employee communications and engagement initiatives that reinforce Volta's culture and values

  • Contribute to global People initiatives, ensuring the US perspective is represented while supporting a "one global team" approach

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years' experience as an HR Business Partner, ideally within a rapidly scaling AI, cloud infrastructure, technology or engineering-led organization

  • Strong working knowledge of multi-state US employment law, including California

  • Experience supporting managers in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

  • Strong employee relations and manager coaching skills

  • Experience working in an early-stage company where processes are still being built

  • A practical, commercial and solutions-oriented approach

  • Excellent judgment, discretion and communication skills

  • The ability to balance hands-on operational delivery with genuine strategic business partnering

  • Familiarity with US compensation, benefits and equity programs

  • Experience working as part of an international or global People team

  • Managers feel confident and well supported in leading their teams

  • US employees enjoy a consistent, positive and engaging employee experience

  • Employee relations matters are managed proactively, fairly and effectively

  • US People processes are scalable, compliant and aligned with global standards

  • The VP People has a trusted HR Business Partner on the ground in the US, helping build a high-performing organization while operating as part of one global People team
