At Zoox, the HR (PEx) Generalist is the frontline face and dependable first point of contact for our workforce ("crew"). In this role, you will triage and resolve daily employee inquiries across Slack, email, and in-person channels, partnering with specialized Centers of Excellence (COEs)- including Benefits, Payroll, People Operations, ER, and Legal-to answer foundational questions and escalate complex matters appropriately. Alongside daily triage, you will support core employee lifecycle transactions in Workday, assist managers with everyday system updates, and facilitate seamless, confidential off-boarding and location changes.

Beyond frontline support, you will provide critical logistical coordination for cyclical talent programs and organizational changes. Working closely with People Partners and People Operations, you will assist with the operational mechanics of performance reviews, promotion cycles, and reporting updates while helping audit HR records and maintain clear, current standard operating procedures. By pairing careful attention to detail with an approachable, empathetic service mindset, you support reducing administrative friction so our crew and managers can stay focused on advancing Zoox’s mission.

Please note, this role requires an on-site capacity of 3 days per week in our Foster City, CA office.

In this role, you will...

  • Coordinate team transitions and employee lifecycle changes: You will serve as the frontline resource for managers navigating team updates and location shifts, supporting People Partners on organizational realignments and partnering with People Operations to execute reporting changes, off-boarding, and terminations with empathy, precision, and compliance.
  • Power cyclical talent programs in tandem with People Partners: You will deliver operational execution for performance reviews, promotion cycles, calibrations, and engagement surveys, drive and scale efficiences, lifting the administrative load so People Partners can stay dedicated to business-critical strategy.
  • Optimize processes and scale operational excellence: You will identify administrative bottlenecks and adopt AI-powered tools and intelligent workflows to streamline documentation and triage, scaling our people operations efficiently while fostering high trust and transparency across Zoox.

Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience in HR Operations, People Experience, or an HR Generalist/Coordinator role supporting a fast-paced workforce.
  • Hands-on operational experience with Workday (or a comparable enterprise HRIS), specifically executing employee lifecycle transactions including job changes, supervisory org updates, location transfers, and off-boarding.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee intake and triage across multiple channels (ticketing systems, Slack, email, in-person), with proven judgment in routing complex or sensitive cases to specialized COEs (e.g., Employee Relations, Legal, Payroll, Benefits).
  • Foundational knowledge of California and federal employment standards (e.g., California final pay rules, wage-and-hour guidelines, and statutory leave basics) combined with a verified track record of handling sensitive, confidential personnel records.
  • Experience supporting cyclical talent programs, including coordinating and executing performance reviews, promotion/calibration cycles, or engagement surveys.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with ServiceNow (or other modern HR service delivery platforms like Jira Service Management or Zendesk HR), particularly during ticketing rollouts or queue optimizations.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools and workflow automation applied practically to draft communications, optimize internal SOPs, or streamline daily operational tasks.
  • Prior HR experience in the autonomous vehicle, robotics, hardware, or fast-scaling tech sectors, navigating a blended workforce of technical, corporate, and operational teams.
