San Francisco, CA.

The Translational
Safety Pathology team is seeking an Image Data Scientist to support the
Digital Pathology group. This role will help advance computational analysis of
digital histopathology slides using image processing, machine learning, and
deep learning methods. The position involves close collaboration with
pathologists and data scientists to design image analysis workflows that
address key biological questions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply
image-processing and analysis pipelines using Python and commercial pathology
software.
- Implement and optimize
ML/DL models for image classification, segmentation, and quantitative tissue
analysis.
- Collaborate with
pathologists to translate biological needs into computational solutions.
- Manage and analyze
large-scale whole-slide image datasets.
- Perform data
visualization, statistical analysis, and documentation of results.
Required Skills &
Experience:
- MS or PhD in Computer
Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years’ experience in
image analysis or computational pathology.
- Strong programming
skills in Python (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, OpenCV).
- Experience handling Whole
Slide Images (WSI) using tools like OpenSlide.
- Solid understanding of machine
learning and computer vision techniques.
- Proficiency with Git/GitHub and collaborative coding practices.
- Excellent communication
and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with deep
learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras; Detectron2 a plus).
- Knowledge of HPC
environments (SLURM) and large-scale training workflows.
- Familiarity with
commercial pathology tools (HALO, Visiopharm, QuPath).
- Experience building
GUIs, data pipelines, or using cloud computing (AWS EC2).
