The Manager of Instructional Design will be pivotal in ensuring career development programs provide top tier learning content for over 185,000 global RTX employees. This role is responsible for leveraging the latest innovative trends for effective learning design, structure, and facilitation implementing best practices as part of the enterprise’s L&D strategy. The candidate should have experience with instructional design, content creation, and a strong knowledge of adult learning best practices with the ability to manage projects in a matrixed and global environment. 

This position reports directly to Associate Director, Learning Design and will work closely with other Learning & Development, Talent Management, and business unit (BU) talent teams across RTX. 

What You Will Do:

  • Design and develop blended learning solutions, including eLearning modules, instructor-led training, facilitator guides, learner materials, and performance support resources.
  • Support rotational development programs through the creation of structured learning journeys and development experiences.
  • Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and translate business requirements into effective learning solutions.
  • Contribute to curriculum strategy, learning pathways, and program architecture aligned to enterprise talent and leadership development goals.
  • Develop learning content that incorporates adult learning principles, learner engagement strategies, and measurable outcomes.
  • Facilitate or support train-the-trainer initiatives and enablement for facilitators and program leaders.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership development, functional training, talent development, and HR teams to ensure alignment across learning initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain instructional design standards, templates, governance, and quality guidelines for functional and enterprise learning content.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, matrixed environment while meeting timelines and stakeholder expectations.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements based on learner feedback and business impact.
  • Travel up to 30%.  
     

Qualifications You Must Have: 

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience. 
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or corporate learning and development.
  • Experience designing blended learning solutions, including eLearning and instructor-led training.
  • Experience with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Storyline, Rise, Captivate) and supporting content design tools such as Adobe InDesign or Photoshop.
  • Relevant experience in Human Resources, Learning, Talent Development and/or Organizational Effectiveness. 
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, high-growth environment, demonstrating agility and flexibility, with minimal supervision. 
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to aggregate and utilize data to influence decisions. 
  • Effective collaborator with ability to build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. 
     

Qualifications We Prefer: 

  • Experience supporting rotational programs, leadership development programs, or early career talent initiatives.
  • Experience developing curriculum strategies, learning pathways, or program architecture.
  • Experience establishing instructional design standards, templates, and governance processes.
  • Experience generating professional presentations that effectively communicate to multiple audiences, including senior and executive leaders. 
  • Project or program management, organization, and the ability to deliver timely, quality projects. 
  • Familiarity with Workday features and functionality. 
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel). 
  • Preferred certifications: leadership assessments, change management, ICF-certified coach.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). If you live within a reasonable commute of an RTX site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
