About the Role:

Wing is looking for a IT Engineering Manager to join our IT Services team. This role is hybrid based in Palo Alto, CA.

In this role, you will lead and manage the IT Engineering and Integration team within the larger IT Services organization, serving as a hands-on Technical Lead Manager (TLM). You will be responsible for providing technical direction, prioritizing work on our core infrastructure and platforms, and managing the engineers and system administrators who maintain Wing's foundational IT services. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader and people manager who can stay close to the details while keeping the big picture in mind, drive execution on critical projects, and implement formal processes to enhance the team's productivity and efficiency, enabling Wing to meet its ambitious scaling goals.

In addition to providing technology leadership, this role is focused on developing and running a highly capable multi-disciplinary team, working to inspire, grow, and develop talent while providing vision and setting direction; leading effectively in a fast-paced environment towards highly impactful outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of IT engineers and system administrators, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance, maintaining a thorough understanding of the technologies and systems maintained by the IT Engineering and Integration team.
  • Collaborate with Wing Program Managers and other IT team leads to ensure program plans are effectively developed and rigorously followed for successful project delivery.
  • Oversee the effective administration, management, and security of foundational IT platforms, including: cloud infrastructure (GCP), SaaS applications (e.g., ServiceNow, Salesforce), identity and access management systems, and other corporate and operational technology infrastructure systems, contributing to their architectural integrity and long-term stability.
  • Engage in hands-on, procedural individual contributor (IC) work as needed to support the team’s ongoing work, which may include running playbooks, maintaining documentation, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation and continuity of team activities.
  • Act as a key escalation point for technical and operational issues, providing support and guidance to ensure the stability, security, and scalability of Wing's IT systems.
  • Partner with stakeholders across Wing to define requirements, prioritize work, and drive the execution of critical IT engineering projects and services.
  • Report on team performance, project status, and key operational metrics to IT leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment with organizational goals.

What You’ll Need:

  • 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure / engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a people management or technical leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Exceptional people management skills, with a proven ability to lead, advocate for, and develop a high-performing technical team while ensuring effective execution.
  • Strong experience managing core IT services such as identity and access management (e.g., Google Workspace), corporate software and services, and ensuring compliance with foundational security principles.
  • Strong familiarity with Linux and/or ChromeOS systems administration is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with managing cloud infrastructure and platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a benefit.
  • Familiarity with the integration and management of corporate IT access, configuration, and monitoring systems (e.g., Puppet, Zabbix, MDM platforms).
  • Familiarity with the ongoing administration and management of SaaS platforms (e.g., Salesforce, ServiceNow, Mulesoft, etc.)
  • Ability to operate independently and decisively in an environment with ambiguous and potentially shifting requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills, particularly for keeping stakeholders and leadership informed of developments and progress.
  • Occasional out of area travel may be required to oversee onsite deployment or other IT services activities.
  • Rare early morning, evening, and/or weekend work may be required for critical incident response or support escalation.
