Junior Technical Writer

About this role:

The Junior Technical Writer supports the creation, editing, and maintenance of clear, accurate, and user-focused technical documentation. This role collaborates closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to translate complex technical concepts into concise, accessible content. The ideal candidate is outgoing, enjoys working with people, and is comfortable proactively engaging subject-matter experts to gather information. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation, including user guides, release notes, procedures, FAQs, and internal knowledge articles.  

• Interview and collaborate with engineers, product owners, and other SMEs to capture requirements, workflows, and technical details. 

• Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and well-structured content appropriate for the target audience.  

• Apply and help enforce Fuse style, terminology, and formatting standards across all documentation. 

• Assist with organizing and maintaining document repositories, version control, and document management processes. 

• Participate in design and review sessions to understand new features and document them accurately and on schedule. 

• Incorporate feedback from peer reviews and stakeholders to continuously improve documentation quality. 

Required Qualifications (Must Have):

• 2+ years of experience in technical writing or editing. 

• Secret Level Security Clearance (or ability to obtain). 

• Experience in writing, editing, or publishing, including within a technical or military environment. 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an outgoing, collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams. 

• Experience with engineering development tools such as JIRA and Confluence. 

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Professional, or similar tools. 

• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn technical concepts and explain them in simple terms. 

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines. 

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have): 

• Knowledge of Navy/Marine/Air Force style guides.  

• Experience with Government (Navy or DoD) documents, processes, procedures, or terminology. 

• Knowledge of DoD acquisition documentation and joint service requirements.  

• Knowledge of systems engineering, test engineering, or a related technical discipline. 

• Understanding of version control tools (e.g., Git) or ticketing systems (e.g., Jira).

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000
