A Brief Overview
The Lead Benefit Advisory Services Consultant is an advanced professional individual contributor who applies broad benefits, insurance, renewal, and consultative expertise to complex client, prospect, and field-facing assignments. This role serves as a specialized subject matter expert and informal leader within Benefit Advisory Services, providing project leadership, coaching, and guidance to other consultants while partnering across Revenue, Customer Support, Insurance Services, and internal stakeholders to deliver consistent, compliant, and strategic benefits guidance. The Lead Consultant helps shape scalable advisory practices, supports complex sales and renewal opportunities, and directly influences client satisfaction, retention, field enablement, and TriNet’s long-term growth objectives.
What you will do
- Serve as a lead benefits advisor for complex prospect and client opportunities, translating business needs, workforce considerations, contribution strategy, and TriNet-sponsored benefit options into clear, compliant recommendations.
- Lead benefits consultation and education for Revenue teams, prospects, and clients, ensuring a high-quality experience while aligning guidance to regulatory requirements, market practices, and TriNet standards.
- Provide project leadership for complex benefit advisory initiatives, including cross-functional process improvements, field enablement deliverables, critical vendor or carrier-related projects, and department priorities.
- Lead renewal execution activities, including review of plan changes, renewal rates, trends, pre-renewal questions, renewal extensions, client or field escalations, and applicable system testing or quality checks.
- Develop and deliver consultative collateral, plan comparison tools, field-facing resources, and benefits education that improve consistency, scalability, and decision quality across the Revenue and Insurance Services ecosystem.
- Serve as a primary subject matter expert in benefits support calls, benefit trainings, open enrollment meetings, renewal meetings, executive or leadership briefings, and virtual or in-person presentations.
- Coach, train, and provide guidance to less experienced Benefit Advisory Services Consultants, helping build team capability, consistency, and consultative rigor.
- Act as a key liaison within Insurance Services for escalated benefits advisory matters, process standards, cross-functional projects, and field enablement needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve advisory processes, tools, templates, and knowledge-sharing practices; recommend and help implement enhancements that support department and corporate goals.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of current and future TriNet products, services, benefit offerings, compliance considerations, sales and renewal cycles, and market trends.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
Experience Qualifications
- Typically 8+ years of experience in group benefits, insurance sales, brokerage, general agency, carrier, benefits consulting, or a closely related benefits advisory function required.
- Typically 2+ years of account management, client-facing consulting, sales support, renewal strategy, or related consultative experience preferred.
- Typically 3+ years of experience in benefits administration, benefits customer support related to renewals or open enrollment, or client-facing benefits education preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of sales and renewal cycles, with demonstrated ability to influence decision makers across a variety of industries.
- Comprehensive understanding of a wide range of benefits and insurance products, with deep group health insurance expertise and the ability to serve as a recognized subject matter expert.
- Highly effective consultative approach, with the ability to ask effective questions, diagnose business needs, and connect benefits guidance to strategic client and field outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex assignments, coordinate work across stakeholders, and resolve ambiguous issues using sound judgment, creativity, and business acumen.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills, including ability to evaluate plan options, contribution strategies, renewal implications, and client-specific considerations.
- Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of an organization, including senior leaders, field leaders, internal partners, prospects, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills for virtual and/or in-person client, employee, field, and leadership education sessions.
- Ability to coach, mentor, train, and guide other professionals while modeling consultative excellence and consistent application of standards.
- Customer-focused mindset; able to independently resolve complex issues within scope and escalate appropriately when broader business, legal, compliance, or operational input is required.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, lead workstreams, collaborate effectively with teams, and manage competing priorities with attention to detail.
- Clear and precise understanding of, and adherence to, ethical principles, company values, code of conduct, and policies.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure timely, effective, efficient, and economic delivery of services across complex client and internal demands.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to translate technical benefits information into clear, field-ready and client-ready messaging.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of Salesforce.

The preferred location for this role is Dublin, CA, and the salary range for this location is $95,600.00 to $179,250.00. All qualified external applicants will be considered for an in-office role, based in Dublin. All qualified internal candidates are encouraged to apply and consider relocation to Dublin and may be considered for remote hire at the company’s discretion. The candidate’s final salary offer will be based on the candidate’s skills, education, work location and experience.
A candidate’s compensation may also include bonuses consistent with TriNet’s corporate bonus plan.
