ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Established in 1983, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. (SDVLP) is the oldest and most comprehensive pro bono legal services program in San Diego County. SDVLP’s mission is to provide equal access to the justice system by serving as a bridge between indigent and other disadvantaged people in San Diego County and the volunteer lawyers who are willing to donate their time and resources. OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY: 

The Legal Administrative Assistant will support the work of the Staff Attorney at the South County Family Justice Center (FJC) in National City by providing legal services to victims of abuse.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

The Legal Administrative Assistant will be responsible for:


  • Screening applicants to determine eligibility for services and conducting intake of new clients;
  • Assisting in providing client services;
  • Maintain accurate program records, including client and volunteer information, to support operational processes, reporting, and other administrative needs;
  • Collaborating with Family Justice Center staff to effectively coordinate legal services;
  • Maintaining client files and creating forms and documents;
  • Coordinating volunteer schedules;
  • Assisting in the recruitment and training of volunteers;
  • Assisting in the scheduling of presentations and trainings;
  • Providing coverage and support at various SDVLP locations across San Diego County based on organizational and operational needs;
  • Translating/interpreting for clients, as appropriate;
  • Traveling to/from court for filing legal documents, delivery to the Sheriffs for service, and returning documents to the legal clinic; and
  • Engaging in other tasks and projects as needed to further SDVLP’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in Spanish and English required;
  • Strong Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills required;
  • At least 6 months of general office administration experience required; and
  • Must have dependable transportation, and a clean driving record. Valid driver’s license with proof of insurance is required; and
  • Associate degree.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This is a full-time position that will be in the office 5 days per week at the South Family Justice Center located in National City; and
  • Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 37.50-hour work week.

WAGE RANGE & BENEFITS:

  • Comprehensive medical benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance;
  • 401K retirement plan with a generous match after 6 months of employment;
  • 15 days paid annual leave (increases to 20 days after 2 years), 10 days paid sick leave, and 16 paid holidays; and
  • We are an eligible employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
