Establish and lead the legal function for a new iGaming company. Responsibilities include managing New Jersey licensing, liaising with regulators, interpreting gaming legislation, negotiating commercial and vendor agreements, developing compliance policies, supporting AML/BSA requirements, advising business teams, and reviewing marketing promotions for regulatory compliance.
On behalf of our client, a newly established iGaming company, we are seeking a dedicated Legal Counsel with iGaming experience to establish and lead their legal function. As the first legal hire, you will be responsible for navigating the complex regulatory framework, supporting the licensing process, and providing pragmatic legal advice to a growing team.
This is a ground-floor opportunity to build the legal foundation for a licensed online gaming business and join their office in New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the iGaming license application
- Serve as primary liaison with regulators on licensing, compliance, and enforcement matters
- Monitor and interpret changes in gaming legislation and advise leadership on business impact
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including platform and content supply deals, payment processing agreements, marketing partnerships, and vendor contracts
- Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, and controls to ensure regulatory compliance
- Support AML/BSA compliance program requirements, including Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
- Provide day-to-day legal guidance to Product, Marketing, and Operations teams
- Review marketing materials and promotions for regulatory compliance
Requirements
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school or Bachelor's degree in Law
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of legal experience, with at least 2 years in iGaming, gaming, or a highly regulated industry
- Bar Admission: Active member of the New Jersey Bar (or eligible for admission)
- Languages: Fluent in English
