Role Summary

The Legal Department supports functional areas across Marex with timely, focused, practical legal services. The Legal Counsel assists the Senior Counsel in all areas relating to prime brokerage and futures transactional work covered by Marex’s Legal Department in North America and develops into areas of greater responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contracts supporting multiple business lines including but not limited to: prime brokerage, OTC swaps, securities lending, repo, futures, cleared swaps, cash equities, and exchange-traded funds seeding/creation. 
  • Ensure timely updates to umbrella trading agreements in advance of client fund launches.
  • Own key client relationships by ensuring that all documentation demonstrates the highest level of care and expertise
  • Communicate directly with chief executive officers and other leaders at external clients, both to project manage complex negotiations and to state Marex’s legal position on complex contractual issues
  • Attend industry working group calls that are specific to documentation and recommend updates to internal templates to reflect issues discussed
  • Assess legal risks embedded in existing contracts with key clients by producing term summaries and collaborating with internal groups and advise managers, senior leaders, and operational teams on existing legal risk
  • Partner with internal Senior Counsel and Compliance Officers to reduce overall legal spend.
  • Distil complex contractual issues into issues lists that can be consumed by traders and other business-focused decisionmakers
  • Collaborate and influence stakeholders by providing crisp written summaries and attending ad-hoc phone conversations as required
  • Collaborate on and contribute to other projects within the Legal Department as needed.
  • Partner with Senior Counsel to ensure that all contracts are consistent with Marex’s regulatory requirements under rules promulgated by the SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC, and other governing self-regulatory organizations such as exchanges and clearinghouses.
  • Demonstrate highest level standards of integrity and conduct, reflecting Marex values and growing importance within financial markets
  • Provide input to risk management processes, as required.

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution and admission to a state bar

  • Exposure to hedge funds, mutual funds, and managed accounts is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to work in a regulated environment and to learn the risk and compliance requirements associated with this
