The Manager, Anaplan COE is a strategic enabler role responsible for combining technical expertise with people leadership. This leadership position oversees the Anaplan Engineering team within Finance Technology, ensuring robust model architecture, managing the team's daily performance, driving strategic rebuilds, and facilitating the transition to an internally owned, scalable platform.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Manager, Anaplan COE to lead our growing Anaplan Engineering team within Finance Technology. This role is pivotal in driving financial planning transformation by leading the rebuild and enhancement of financial planning models in Anaplan. You will be responsible for leading and shaping a team of 6–7 Anaplan model builders, improving scalability, and enabling sustainable long-term ownership of our FP&A technology landscape.

This role offers the autonomy to set direction, influence architecture, and scale processes.

Responsibilities:

The Manager, Anaplan Architecture is expected to spend approximately 45% on people management and 55% on architectural and technical work.

  • People & Team Leadership:
    • Lead and manage a distributed team of 6–7 Anaplan model builders, coordinating work across locations (Toronto + San Francisco) and time zones (East & West Coast).
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, performance management, and development planning for the Anaplan Engineering team.
    • Drive the transition from a consultant-led model to an FTE-led internal capability, establishing robust internal best practices and standardization across all builds.
    • Actively participate in hiring and scaling the team, seeking to add diversity in industry and thought backgrounds.
    • Build trust and collaboration among geographically dispersed team members and remote stakeholders.
  • Architecture & Technical Oversight:
    • Drive the design, architecture reviews, and model performance optimization of large-scale Anaplan solutions.
    • Oversee large-scale rebuilds and continuous enhancement projects, ensuring models are built for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
    • Partner effectively with FP&A stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into scalable model designs and detailed implementation plans.
    • Ensure that architectural designs enhance resilience and promote business continuity.
    • Oversee cyclical FP&A operations, including month-end, forecasting, and model rollover activities, ensuring alignment with business timelines and priorities.
    • Coordinate the design, development, and testing activities for complex model changes.
    • Identify actionable, value-added optimization and efficiency opportunities, contributing to the continuous improvement of our Anaplan applications and processes.
    • Uphold strict and consistent standards of process and model documentation.
    • Carry out regular technical system audits to ensure compliance with appropriate standards.
Experience:
  • Required Qualifications:
    • Overall Experience: 8–10+ years of overall experience in financial systems or IT systems.
    • People Management Experience: 5+ years in people management focused on leading technical teams, such as model builders, solution architects, or planning system engineers.
    • Technical Certification (Mandatory): Master Anaplanner certification is required.
    • Architectural Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in complex Anaplan model architecture, performance tuning, and scalability.
    • Functional Expertise: Deep understanding of FP&A concepts and processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
    • Methodology: Experience employing agile methodology in the development of software, systems interfaces, and application configurations.
  • Skills and Attributes:
    • Soft Skills: Must possess strong communicator, collaborative, strategic, organized, and stakeholder-savvy skills.
    • Collaboration: Proven ability to partner with finance stakeholders (FP&A analysts, treasury, tax, billing) to understand and prioritize business systems needs.
    • Leadership Autonomy: Freedom to set direction, influence architecture, and scale processes.
    • Proven ability to translate unstructured business problems into clearly defined requirements.
    • Experience managing multiple parallel builds while maintaining architectural consistency.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Exposure to advanced Anaplan technology, specifically Anaplan Polaris.
    • Background in accounting or finance (CPA is a plus).
    • Experience leading teams through organizational change, particularly transitioning from reliance on external consultants (e.g., Accenture) to establishing robust internal ownership.

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $165,000 - $206,250. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
