What You'll Do
We're seeking a strategic communications leader to own Flatiron's external narrative and scientific communications strategy. This role is responsible for elevating Flatiron's visibility as an innovation leader in oncology through integrated communications campaigns, executive thought leadership, and scientific storytelling. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leadership and cross-functional teams, translating complex scientific and product innovations into compelling narratives that drive market positioning and business impact. In addition, your core responsibilities will include:
Strategic Communications & Campaign Development
  • Develop and execute integrated communications plans across multiple business units (Evidence, Point of Care, Clinical Research, Life Sciences partnerships)
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align messaging and priorities, ensuring consistency across external channels
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on communications strategy and market positioning
  • Embed within 2-3 strategic cross-functional groups (e.g., RS/RO Leadership, Executive Team, Product Leadership, Commercial Leadership) to provide ongoing strategic counsel

Scientific Communications & Thought Leadership
  • Lead communications strategies supporting manuscripts, conference abstracts, publications, product launches, and scientific milestones
  • Develop comprehensive conference campaigns ("curtain raisers") and social promotion plans for tier-1 research conferences (ASCO, ESMO, ISPOR, etc.)
  • Develop and manage social content for executives and subject matter experts to support brand building and strategic visibility
  • Create executive and subject matter expert thought leadership content across owned channels
  • Build and maintain employee advocacy programs that amplify Flatiron's voice through trusted internal researchers and leaders

Social Media & Digital Strategy
  • Manage corporate social channels (Twitter/X, LinkedIn) and develop editorial calendars
  • Create graphics and visual content in design tools (Figma); publish and schedule content in Sprinklr
  • Monitor engagement and report on social media performance metrics
  • Develop and implement strategies to maintain strong share of voice in response to algorithm changes and market dynamics

Media Relations & Earned Media
  • Manage relationships with external media partners and PR agencies
  • Coordinate proactive and reactive media opportunities
  • Conduct daily media monitoring and prepare reports
  • Secure earned media coverage in tier-1 publications to reinforce Flatiron's market positioning

Communications Operations & Governance
  • Oversee communications project tracking systems (Airtable) and manage timelines across multiple initiatives
  • Manage procurement requests and contracts for communications vendors and tools
  • Maintain organized documentation across shared platforms (Google Drive, etc.)
  • Support Flatiron's communications guidelines and ensure messaging consistency across all external communications
  • Develop and maintain brand and communications governance frameworks

Who You Are
You're a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who values the opportunity to think beyond the way things are. You're also a strategic and empathetic communicator with 6-8 years of experience leading external communications in healthcare, health technology or the life sciences. You connect communications strategies to broader business goals, bring clarity to complex scientific and product topics, and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen a company's voice and reputation. You're comfortable working independently, influencing stakeholders across functions and adapting quickly as priorities change. You consistently deliver high-quality work on tight timelines and enjoy mentoring others, strengthening team capabilities and finding smarter ways to keep important work moving.
In addition you have:
  • 5+ years of experience in external communications, scientific communications, or marketing strategy
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing integrated communications campaigns
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills; ability to translate complex scientific/technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Experience managing social media strategy and content creation
  • Proficiency with communications tools and platforms (e.g., Sprinklr, Airtable, design software)
  • Experience with media relations and earned media strategy
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills

Extra credit
  • Background in life sciences, healthcare, or oncology communications
  • Experience with employee advocacy programs and thought leadership development
  • Familiarity with AI-powered content tools and communications automation
  • Experience managing communications during organizational change or rapid growth
  • Knowledge of conference strategy and scientific event marketing
  • Experience with Figma, Google Workspace, and similar collaborative tools

Job Compensation Range
Salary Range: $114,400.00 - $157,300.00
Preferred Primary Location: NY office
The annual pay range reflected above for this position is based on the preferred primary location of the role which is listed in the job description. Salary ranges for other locations vary from the range reflected above. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. An annual bonus and equity may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
