Job Description

As a Managing Director within the Technology & Business Services (TBS) Investment Banking group, you will be responsible for originating and leading client engagements, driving revenue growth, and supporting the strategic direction of the practice. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives, private equity sponsors, and boards, while leading transaction teams through the execution of complex M&A and capital markets transactions. The  Managing Director  will be a hands-on leader deeply involved with deal teams in every aspect of mandates from sourcing though closing.


This role requires deep TBS sector expertise and a proven ability to build and maintain client relationships at the most senior levels, generate new business, and lead high-performing teams in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.


What You’ll Do

  • Originate and lead M&A, capital raising, and strategic advisory engagements within the TBS sector
  • Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with corporate clients, private equity sponsors, and key industry stakeholders
  • Drive business development efforts, including identifying opportunities, leading pitch processes, and converting mandates into revenue
  • Serve as senior advisor to clients on strategic, financial, and operational matters
  • Provide oversight and direction across all phases of transaction execution, ensuring quality and successful outcomes
  • Partner with Vice Presidents and deal teams to manage execution while maintaining strong client engagement throughout the process
  • Contribute to the growth and positioning of the TBS practice, including sector strategy, market presence, and thought leadership
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level bankers, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
  • Collaborate across product and industry teams to deliver integrated solutions to clients

Responsibilities include:

Sourcing and Origination (~40%)

  • Source and originate TBS investment banking opportunities, developing and maintaining senior-level industry relationships in partnership with G2 resources
  • Leverage your established network, prior transaction experience, and G2’s platform and track record to generate referrals and new client opportunities
  • Achieve and exceed defined revenue and origination targets, contributing meaningfully to firm growth
  • Partner with marketing to develop and execute sector-focused initiatives, including newsletters, campaigns, and thought leadership content
  • Represent G2 and your personal expertise in the market through speaking engagements, publications, conference participation, and other industry visibility efforts

Execution (~40%)

  • Serve as senior lead and overall owner of transaction execution from mandate through closing
  • Lead complex M&A, capital markets, and advisory engagements within a small, high-performing team environment
  • Ensure execution quality by identifying key risks early and developing proactive strategies to mitigate them
  • Manage all critical client, counterparty, and stakeholder communications with professionalism and judgment
  • Provide senior-level strategic and financial advice to clients within the TBS sector to support long-term value creation
  • Ensure transaction success by appropriately identifying risks and developing strategies and plans to proactively mitigate those risks
  • Maintain accountability for deal outcomes, ensuring successful delivery across all phases of the engagement lifecycle

Organization & Practice Development (~20%)

  • Support the continued growth and strategic development of the TBS practice
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing investment banking professionals
  • Collaborate with other G2 senior leaders on cross-practice origination, live mandates, and firm-building initiatives
  • Contribute to shaping culture, standards, and excellence across the platform

Skills and Characteristics:

  • Managing Director-level experience leading sell-side, buy-side, capital raising, and advisory transactions within the TBS sector
  • Proven ability to originate and close complex transactions across varying market cycles, including growth, downturn, and distressed environments
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to lead high-stakes conversations across C-suite executives, boards, and investors
  • Demonstrated leadership in building, managing, and developing high-performing teams
  • Advanced financial, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
  • Deep and active professional network within the TBS ecosystem (IT services and/or business services experience strongly preferred; operating experience highly valued)
  • Strong reputation and track record that can be leveraged to expand G2’s market presence
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong academic background; undergraduate degree from a leading institution required, advanced degree preferred

This role offers uncapped total compensation, with annual earnings typically ranging from $600,000–$3,000,000 or more, depending on sourcing, origination, and execution performance. Bonuses are paid upon transaction closing or throughout the year as revenue is collected.
