Change.org is searching for a Campaigns Communication Strategist to help Change.org drive and get media coverage on big, brand defining campaigns led by our users. The focus will be mostly on conservative-leaning campaigns.

You will report to our Senior Communications Manager. As a key member of our Communications team, you’ll identify strong campaigns for experimentation, stay abreast of compelling issues and news stories, attract top tier media coverage, draft brand emails applicable to a wide audience and use media to drive campaign impact, victory and brand awareness.

We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform with 100 million users, 40,000+ campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. We’re working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We’re just getting started and hope you’ll join us!

From mobilizing over 5 million people to investigate the fires in the Amazon, to mobilizing nearly 3 million against war and famine in Yemen, to large-scale mobilizations for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for Racial Justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. Dozens of local, national, and international victories are happening every day thanks to the strength of our members who are changing the lives of people around the world. We want to help them go even further and we need your help!

Role overview:

We are seeking a candidate who can help expand and support campaigns that resonate with a variety of audiences, including those with conservative viewpoints. In particular, the candidate will:

  • Conduct market research to identify civic and social campaigns of interest to conservative voter segments;
  • Develop partnerships and outreach strategies to support these campaigns; and
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful campaign delivery and measurement of impact.

Key outcomes:

  • Identify potentially strong campaigns for our team to test over email, social and press.
  • Consistently bring in top tier media coverage on a select number of powerful campaigns.
  • Support petition starters to drive their campaigns to victory and talk about their campaign to press.
  • Write brand emails that perform well to a wide swatch of Change.org’s email audience.
  • Be on top of compelling issues and news stories to help with campaign selection and escalation.
  • Use media to drive campaign impact, victory, and brand awareness; including pitching to press, building reporter lists, and suggesting stories for social media.

The most important core competencies for the role are:

  • Strong writing skills, ideally some experience writing compelling brand emails.
  • Strong media skills, including experience working with and pitching to journalists, participating in media strategies that gain the attention of key stakeholders, and using media to build brand affinity.
  • Proven track record of landing media hits, including top-tier digital and print publications.
  • Demonstrated success organizing social campaigns and getting the attention of decision-makers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced rapid response environment.
  • A strong sense of what petitions will perform well on social media.
  • Willingness to work across differences, including providing support to policy-compliant campaigns that you may not agree with but align with Change.org’s commitment to being an open platform.

Essential qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience or background in community outreach, advocacy, or communications, preferably with conservative organizations or voter segments;
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders from diverse viewpoints and ensure broad representation of campaign interests;
  • Familiarity with political landscapes, especially around conservative priorities, is a plus.

Target experience:

  • 3-6 years working in social organizing, campaigning or social justice
  • 7+ years working in communications

Equal Opportunity Statement:

Our organization welcomes candidates from all backgrounds and affiliations. We do not require or endorse any specific political belief as a condition of employment. Rather, the ideal candidate will possess the professional skills to effectively engage and support campaigns that appeal to a conservative audience, among other constituencies.
