About Range Energy
Range Energy builds powered trailers that help electrify heavy-duty trucking without requiring fleets to replace their tractors. We solve real-world problems with real hardware.
We move fast, take ownership, and hold a high bar for execution. We value people who are low ego and team-first, calm under pressure, direct and respectful communicators, willing to roll up their sleeves, and focused on solutions, not drama.
We operate with high integrity. We do what we say we’ll do, we’re transparent about risks and tradeoffs, and we build trust through consistent follow-through.
The work is hands-on. Sometimes messy. Often fast. Always meaningful.
Founded in 2021, Range is led by experienced EV operators from Tesla, Zoox, Honda, and other leading OEMs. We are backed by strong investors and focused on building hardware that fleets will actually use.
If you like building real things, solving hard problems, and working with low drama, high output teammates, you will fit here.
Role Summary
We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with high drive, low ego, and a genuine desire to own hard problems across our trailer platform. This role sits at the center of our hardware development process — you'll be hands-on with CAE, executing FEA models and validating designs through simulation, while also contributing directly to the physical design and integration of trailer subsystems.
The level is open. Whether you're early in your career and ready to build real skills fast, or an experienced engineer looking to take on significant technical ownership with minimal hand-holding, we want to talk. What matters is strong fundamentals, a bias toward execution, and genuine curiosity about how things work.
You'll partner closely with systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and ready for the road.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute structural FEA models using CATIA & Ansys to validate trailer subsystems — chassis, suspension, enclosures, and structural interfaces
Build and maintain load cases, boundary conditions, and simulation workflows that support design decisions across the mechanical team
Perform durability, fatigue, and thermal analyses to ensure designs meet real-world operating requirements
Lead or contribute to mechanical design efforts — component design, tolerance analysis, and drawing release — commensurate with experience level
Collaborate with hardware, systems, and manufacturing teams to integrate analysis into the design cycle and drive design-for-manufacturability
Correlate simulation results with physical test data; own root-cause analysis when designs don't perform as expected
Document analysis methods, assumptions, and results to support design reviews and build institutional knowledge
What Success Looks Like (first 6–12 months)
Own FEA validation for major subsystems — from load case development through design sign-off
Build repeatable simulation workflows that improve speed and consistency across the mechanical team
Become a trusted resource for analysis-driven design feedback across hardware and systems teams
Ship a meaningful contribution to the organization’s physical design efforts — not just analysis support
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
2+ years of experience in mechanical design and/or structural analysis (internship and project team experience considered for strong candidates)
Hands-on proficiency with FEA tools, preferably Ansys (Mechanical, Workbench)
Experience with CAD tools (CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks)
Solid understanding of structural mechanics, fatigue, and material behavior
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks in parallel, and communicate findings clearly
Preferred / Nice-to-Haves
Experience in heavy vehicles, commercial trucks, trailers, or off-highway equipment
Exposure to durability and fatigue analysis methods (stress-life, strain-life, damage accumulation)
Familiarity with thermal analysis or CFD
Experience correlating simulation results with physical test data
Knowledge of ISO, SAE, or FMVSS standards for commercial vehicles
Background in mentoring peers or leading technical efforts on a team
