Job Description:

R&D position for Mechanical Engineer for Parametric Test instruments.

Job Description:

We set the benchmarks by providing the systems, the software, and the expertise these visionaries depend on, investigating and developing solutions to fill specific customer needs within the ADV93k platform.

In this position you will be a member of a hardware R&D team in San Jose developing mechanical and thermal solutions for our Parametric Test product line, ensuring that our products can be successfully integrated into the ADV93K platform.

During the life-cycle of development, the San Jose R&D team designs, evaluates, verifies, and optimizes hardware designs from concept phase to production maturity.  The development cycle will require close interaction with the local Software, Electrical, and Application engineering R&D teams, as well as interaction with the broader global mechanical teams.

Together with the rest of the San Jose R&D team you will work in many cross-functional situations and interact with other Advantest organizations including sites around the world to ensure a manufacturable and supportable design.

 

This position is for an experienced engineer, however we will consider highly qualified entry-level applicants. 

Preferred Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Expert level knowledge in 3D modeling of machined parts, sheet metal parts, and integration with PCA’s and cable interfaces.
  • Mentor (EMP/EMN) to 3D CAD translation of PCB step files for clearance and KOZ violations
  • Expertise with PTC Creo Elements Direct, SolidWorks, NX modeling tools and translation between tools.
  • 2D manufacturing dimensioned drawing generation.
  • PTC Windchill experience or equivalent Project Data Management (PLM) experience for configuration management of parts, assemblies, drawings.
  • Bill of Materials creation and maintenance of all product generation components.
  • Engineering Change Order (ECO) management and processing
  • Vendor liaison for all prototype parts with local vendors to prove concepts.
  • Thermal analysis and Heat transfer of compact assemblies with high energy densities.
  • FEA as required for mechanical stress and thermal modeling simulation.
  • Versed in commercial part searches to augment custom designs.
  • DC Electrical knowledge for ME integration with EE and Software personnel.
  • Fluent in English, proficient with Microsoft Office products, writing reports and documents
  • Analytic Problem-solver skills with self-contained and result oriented working style
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, able to clearly communicate ideas, issues, and solutions to peers and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with use of basic lab instruments such as DMM, power supply, etc.
  • Practical knowledge of PCB construction, properties, effect of PCB materials on signal quality and heat transfer.
  • Digital electronics design skills are an added plus but not a core job requirement
  • Experience with Trade Compliance classification for shipping and export parts and prototype products
