Build and own Ironsite’s mobile web platform for construction workers and superintendents. Develop worker profiles, achievements, rewards, notifications, attendance, check-ins, progress tracking, offline-first functionality, integrations with construction and HR systems, and supporting APIs. The role requires full-stack development, mobile experiences for low-connectivity environments, real-time data, analytics, cloud infrastructure, and scalable web applications.

About Ironsite

Ironsite is building the intelligence layer for the physical world. We design our own wearable hardware, deploy it alongside craft workers, and transform a shift's footage into a next-morning report. Our internal team and purpose-built models label the data overnight and deliver actionable insights to superintendents by 5 AM.

We are accelerating the speed, efficiency, and predictability of construction, especially for complex, mission-critical infrastructure projects, including data centers, LNG facilities, sports stadiums, hospitals, and other large-scale developments, by training AI models on egocentric construction footage and labor productivity data. We are built with a pro-worker philosophy at our core: we believe technology should empower the workforce, not replace it. We're working to give craft workers and project leaders better visibility into what's happening on-site, while creating a system where the reality of construction and the chaos of each day is finally available to the people running the project.

Ironsite is deployed across several of the largest active construction projects in the country. To date, we've captured more than 100,000 hours of construction footage across seven states, now process thousands of hours of site activity every day, and maintain a worker opt-out rate below two percent. This is enabled by a workforce-first architecture that anonymizes devices, captures no audio, and never releases raw video.

Ironsite is backed by leading investors (8VC, South Park Commons, Saga Ventures) and prominent operators across technology and construction, including Eric Schmidt, Jeff Dean, Jeff Rothschild, Mark Leslie, Scott Wu, Eric Glyman, Karim Atiyeh, Russell Kaplan, and others, alongside over a dozen construction industry operators who have joined us as partners in building this.

Longer term, we believe Ironsite is the foundation for what construction becomes in the next decade. We think the systems we're building are the operating system for how the physical world gets built, and will unlock a fundamentally different way of respect for our workforce. One where craft workers are more valued, more visible, and better paid for the skill they bring, and where the industry finally has the intelligence layer that makes autonomous construction possible. Both futures start with the same foundation.

The Role

We're hiring an exceptional Founding Mobile Engineer to help build the Ironsite mobile platform for craftworkers.

You'll own the mobile experience craftworkers carry in their pocket, and the field tools superintendents use to run their jobsites in real time. This is the most interactive surface Ironsite exposes to the world, and where every other team's work at the company ultimately shows up. Hardware, AI research, video pipelines, integrations with the industry's legacy tools. You'll be the person who makes sure it lands well in the hands of the people who matter most.

This is where our pro-workforce philosophy translates into product: the intelligence layer we're building meets the crews who actually build the physical world, and you'll ship meaningful initiatives that directly impact tens of thousands of craft workers and dozens of the largest contractors in the country.

What You'll Build

  • Craft Worker Mobile Experience. The worker-facing mobile web app that turns Ironsite from something workers wear into something they use daily, including profiles, stats, achievements, badges, the rewards marketplace, exportable resumes, and multi-language daily notifications with SMS delivery for workers in the field. This is the first mobile product built specifically for the recognition and career-building layer of the trades, and it's where every other team's work reaches the workforce for the first time.
  • Field Tools for Superintendents. The tools superintendents use to run the jobsite in real time, such as Time & Attendance capture in the field, crew check-ins, and progress tracking from anywhere on site. These are the daily-driver mobile surfaces that decide whether Ironsite becomes the system of record for the field, and where our data infrastructure and AI insights become something a superintendent can actually act on in the moment.
  • Integrations & API. The connectors that let Ironsite plug into the existing construction and HR stack, including Procore, Autodesk, Trimble, and the long tail of ERP and payroll systems, and the API infrastructure underneath them. Done right, this is what makes Ironsite the ground-truth layer feeding every other system on a jobsite; done wrong, it's a bottleneck on every deployment.

Technical Challenges You'll Solve

  • Building a mobile experience for the field, not the office. The craft worker mobile web app has to work for non-technical users in real jobsite conditions with low connectivity, multiple languages, wide range of devices, gloves on hands, sun in eyes, and enough polish to actually drive daily engagement. You'll ship a mobile surface that has to earn its place on every worker's phone.
  • Being the interface every other team's work depends on. Ironsite's mobile layer is where the outputs of our hardware team, AI research team, data infrastructure team, and integrations team converge. That means the mobile surface has to be flexible enough to expose new capabilities as they ship, principled enough to keep the experience coherent as more capabilities layer in, and rigorous enough to give every other team fast feedback on how their work is actually being received. You'll be at the center of that.
  • Offline-first as a first-class citizen, not an afterthought. Jobsites have unreliable networks. That means offline-first data models, real sync conflict resolution, and building for the reality that a worker might not have a signal for hours at a time. You'll design the systems that make Ironsite feel instant even when the network doesn't cooperate.
  • Building trust with a workforce that has every reason to be skeptical of tech. Craft workers have been the object of a lot of failed jobsite technology. The mobile experience has to feel like it was built for them, not at them. Every UX decision, every notification, every small detail either builds trust with the workforce or erodes it. You'll be the person making those calls.

What We're Looking For

  • Deep experience shipping production mobile experiences, especially web-based mobile products that have to work reliably across a wide range of devices and network conditions.
  • Strong full-stack skills, with production experience across modern frontend (React/TypeScript), backend services (Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis), and cloud infrastructure (AWS). You know how mobile decisions ripple through the whole stack, and vice versa.
  • Solid background in API design, third-party integrations, and real-time data and analytics surfaces. This is the kind of work where correctness, performance, and clarity for downstream teams all matter at the same time.
  • A collaborative instinct, because this role sits at the intersection of every other technical team at the company. You partner well across disciplines, and you're the kind of engineer other teams want to work with because their work lands better through you.
  • Systems thinking across end-to-end product architecture. You care as much about the seams between systems as the systems themselves.
  • Typically 5+ years of mobile-focused product experience, with a track record of shipping things you're proud of.
  • A background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, or the equivalent hands-on experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience shipping mobile web experiences designed for real-world conditions such as offline-first data, sync conflicts, unreliable networks, and non-technical users.
  • Background building consumer-grade mobile products with genuine polish, where user experience and engagement matter as much as engineering rigor.
  • Experience with construction, manufacturing, or similar operational industries where your users are in the field, not behind a desk.
  • Genuine excitement about industries that have been underserved by software, and interest in becoming one of the engineers who builds the mobile experience the physical world runs on.
  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Autodesk, Trimble), HR tech, or similar enterprise workflow tools.

Location, Compensation, & Perks
  • San Francisco Bay Area (on-site)
  • Base salary: $150k-$250k per year, commensurate with experience
