Position Details
Title: Financial Analyst
Classification: Regular Full Time (1.0 FTE), Exempt
Location: Oakland, CA
Regular Work Schedule: Full time, M-F (this is not a remote position)
Compensation:
- Starting salary: $75,000 per year
The Non-Profit Financial Analyst provides essential support to the Budget Manager and the Finance department by assisting in budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, maintaining financial records, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. The Financial Analyst plays a key role in ensuring accurate record-keeping, data entry, and report generation, and is vital in helping the organization achieve its financial objectives and maintain fiscal responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:- Inputting budget data, tracking expenditures, and maintaining accurate financial records using relevant software and systems. This may involve reconciling differences, verifying accuracy, and making corrections as needed.
- Assisting in preparing budget documents, forecasting, and analyzing financial data - involves collating information, creating reports, and supporting budget review processes.
- Analyzing budget variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures, may involve identifying significant deviations, explaining variances, and recommending corrective action.
- Providing technical support and guidance on budget-related software, systems, and processes - for example, troubleshooting issues, training users, and ensuring efficient use of financial tools.
- Additional duties may include special projects and/or additional duties requested by the Director of Finance and/or CFO.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum two years of experience in accounting, preferably in the non-profit sector
- At least two years of financial analysis experience
- Experience with computerized accounting ledger systems, preferably Abila MIP
Competencies (skills, abilities & knowledge):
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including knowledge of OMB Circular A-122
- Knowledge of payroll processes
- Understand and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in financial accounting activities
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with grant management
- Strong work ethic and commitment to accuracy
- Proficiency with MS Office, including advanced capabilities with Excel
- Organized and ability to manage multiple processes
- Strong communication skills
