Job Summary

TYLin is currently seeking a North America Region Counsel – Lead Complex Contracts Counsel (“Region Counsel”) to join our North America legal team. Reporting to the Region Chief Counsel – North America, the Region Counsel serves as a strategic legal advisor for key business sectors within our North American operations. This role is central to enabling business success through proactive legal counsel and hands-on leadership of contract negotiations, particularly for complex infrastructure and alternative delivery projects. The Region Counsel will focus on supporting business leaders with risk-balanced legal solutions, participating in key client negotiations, and ensuring compliance across all contractual engagements.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You'll Do

  • Lead legal negotiations and documentation of complex infrastructure project contracts, including design-build, integrated project delivery (IPD), public private partnership (PPP), joint ventures, and teaming agreements.

  • Provide proactive legal support during the proposal phase, including risk assessments for RFPs, bid strategies, and working with the business to find insurance solutions that suit specific project needs.

  • Collaborate with regional and global risk committees to support policy compliance and improve risk management strategies.

  • Support claims avoidance strategies on projects.

  • Manage claims and litigation

  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to infrastructure, engineering, and construction contracts, and advise stakeholders accordingly.

  • Manage and coordinate external counsel on project-specific or specialized legal issues.

  • Drive efficiency in legal operations by developing templates, playbooks, and guidance materials specific to the sector’s contracting needs, in coordination with global and regional legal teams.

  • Represent the legal function in client meetings, partnering forums, and strategic business development efforts.

  • Support as required, in other complex situations impacting our North America projects or operations

Opportunities for Growth

For the right candidate, this role may be expanded to include:

  • Leadership opportunities within the legal team supporting broader contracting, projects, and regional operations.

  • Participation in global legal initiatives and transactions.

  • Collaboration on global insurance and risk policies with internal stakeholders and external advisors.

What You'll Bring

  • Law degree; active member of a U.S. State or Canadian Provincial bar.

  • 7+ years of experience in commercial or project counsel roles (in-house and/or private practice), preferably in infrastructure, engineering, or construction sectors.

  • Demonstrated expertise in negotiating complex contracts and alternative delivery models (e.g., DB, DBFOM, PDB, PPP).

  • Proven ability to independently manage legal issues across the full project lifecycle—from bid to close-out.

  • Strong commercial instincts and the ability to tailor legal advice to business priorities.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence to advise senior leaders.

  • Open-minded to implementation and use of technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), to increase efficiency and improve the client experience. Prior experience implementing or substantially using technology to deliver legal services is a plus.

  • Collaborative mindset with a global outlook; ability to work seamlessly across regions and functions.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.

This role is ideal for a commercially savvy legal professional who excels in complex contract negotiations and is energized by supporting major infrastructure pursuits in a fast-paced environment.
