About TrueMeter

TrueMeter (truemeter.com), is an AI Energy Agent that is becoming the default way any business pays for power.

The U.S. power grid is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation. Power bills are growing 3x faster than inflation, our grid struggles to keep up with increased demand from data centers and renewable energy adoption is still stagnating. TrueMeter’s product is the one-stop shop for any business that wants to consolidate their power bills into a cheaper, fixed-price subscription.

You’ll join us at this pivotal moment—owning TrueMeter’s data pipelines and governance, scaling our impact to every single utility and business in the US, and empowering the leading models for energy optimization. If you're excited to work at the intersection of energy, software, and sustainability, we’d love to meet you.

TrueMeter is a seed-stage company backed by leading Silicon Valley investors and we are building a team of innovators passionate about redefining the energy industry with data and AI. After launching an MVP in May ‘2024, we have already onboarded millions of dollars of power bills from great brands.

_____________________________________________________________________

The Role
As Data & Platform Engineer, you will own and maintain TrueMeter’s data pipelines, proprietary data sources, cloud infrastructure and LLM stack employed to structure data. Working directly with the co-founder and CTO, you will be expected to grow as an engineering leader as TrueMeter scales.

What you’ll own

  • API Pipelines: Build and maintain reliable connectors to multiple energy company portals and public databases.

  • Secrets Management: Design end‑to‑end encryption/decryption workflows for customer credentials and API keys.

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Architect secure data storage in GCP (Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Secret Manager, VPCs).

  • Data & DB Architecture: Define schemas and ingestion pipelines for high‑volume telemetry (e.g., time series data of energy usage).

  • Backend Systems: Develop services in production‑grade Python (and ideally TypeScript) for ETL, scheduling, and microservices.

  • Standards & Best Practices: Implement CI/CD, automated testing, observability (logging/metrics/alerts), and robust error handling.

  • Technical Leadership: Document architecture, mentor engineers on setting standards and best practices, guide code reviews and design discussions.

What we’re looking for

  • 4+ years building production data pipelines and/or payment systems (preferably fintech or energy).

  • Expert in Python and comfortable with TypeScript/Node.js.

  • Deep experience with GCP: Cloud SQL/BigQuery, IAM, Secret Manager, Cloud Functions or Run.

  • Strong security mindset: encryption at rest/in transit, key rotation, PCI‑level attention to detail.

  • Hands-on with SQL and NoSQL schema design for time‑series and relational data.

  • Solid grasp of microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and event‑driven architectures.

  • Clear communicator: you can write docs and build processes that technical and non-technical stakeholders actually read and adopt, and you enjoy communicating across functions and mentoring other engineers.

Why join us now

This is a rare chance to shape the very foundations of TrueMeter’s core technology as we scale. You’ll be part of a hyper‑growth team, owning critical systems end‑to‑end, and helping us change the U.S. utilities market as we make a real dent in its carbon emissions.

If you like tackling messy data challenges, building platforms, and mentoring teammates, let’s talk.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
