Proto is accelerating the world's transition to an open economy with products that increase access and independence for everyone. We're building Bitkey, a simple and safe self-custody bitcoin wallet that will put customers in control, as well as hardware and software that will help decentralize bitcoin mining and enable new and innovative use cases for bitcoin mining. We're developing these products in the open - you can read more about them at bitkey.build and mining.build . Within Proto, our Bitcoin Products team delivers the product and go-to-market strategy, software, firmware, and custom silicon needed to make Bitkey and our ambitious mining initiatives a reality. Come build the future of money with us!
The Role
With Proto, we're building hardware and software that will help decentralize bitcoin mining, promote new and innovative use cases for bitcoin mining, and drive a major new business for Block. We're looking for a Post-Silicon Lead who will drive productization of our bitcoin mining chips.
You will:
  • Bring Proto silicon from first samples to mass production
  • Develop and implement test strategies that lead to better performance and faster delivery
  • Collect and analyze both wafer-level and bench test data and collaborate with data scientists to characterize and optimize silicon performance
  • Work with foundry to identify potential device parameter changes to enable efficient low-voltage operation and maximize performance
  • Collaborate with hardware system engineers to determine appropriate binning strategies and to design systems that get the most out of the individual and collective ASIC performance
  • Collaborate with ASIC design engineers to improve test capabilities at a silicon level and to inform what device improvements could improve circuit performance and energy efficiency
  • Lead a small team of test engineers to deliver on the responsibilities in this job description

You have:
  • 10 + years of post-education experience in fab or fabless environments, technology definition and bring-up, device/process architecture, and NPI
  • Experience with near-threshold operation (and bitcoin mining specifically is a huge plus)
  • Experience with CP, FT, and bench test data collection and analysis - and ability and willingness to get your hands dirty on all of these activities
  • Bias to action - if it needs doing, you're already working on it, and with the right level of scrappiness for the task
  • An effective technical leadership approach and ability to inspire and develop great engineers
  • Deep understanding of SPICE fundamentals, simulation methodologies, and BSIM FinFET models
