Let’s face it, a company whose mission is human transformation better have some fresh thinking about the employer/employee relationship.

We do. We can’t cram it all in here, but you’ll start noticing it from the first interview.

Even our candidate experience is different. And when you get an offer from us (and accept it), you get way more than a paycheck. You get a personal BetterUp Coach, a development plan, a trained and coached manager, the most amazing team you’ve ever met (yes, each with their own personal BetterUp Coach), and most importantly, work that matters.

This makes for a remarkably focused and fulfilling work experience. Frankly, it’s not for everyone. But for people with fire in their belly, it’s a game-changing, career-defining, soul-lifting move.

Join us and we promise you the most intense and fulfilling years of your career, doing life-changing work in a fun, inventive, soulful culture.

If that sounds exciting—and the job description below feels like a fit—we really should start talking.

The Opportunity

BetterUp is building a new kind of partnership with our enterprise clients—one that drives lasting, measurable transformation. At the Principal level, you won’t just support that work: you’ll shape how it’s done across the entire Services organization and beyond.

As Principal Change Activation Partner, you will be BetterUp’s foremost expert in enterprise change strategy and activation. You’ll mobilize multiple functions, retire low-value practices, and scale AI-enabled change frameworks that define how the industry thinks about transformation. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership—internally and externally—and your influence will be felt company-wide.

This is a rare seat. It requires someone who has seen the movie before, knows which levers to pull, and can build the function that doesn’t yet exist—with the gravitas to earn trust at the C-suite and the hands-on craft to make it real.

What You’ll Do
  • Shape company-wide change management strategy in partnership with executive leadership, ensuring alignment with BetterUp’s business objectives and the evolving needs of our enterprise client base.

  • Remove institutional barriers to adoption by driving cultural and structural change that positions BetterUp and its clients for continuous reinvention.

  • Build scalable, teachable frameworks and playbooks that define how change management gets done at BetterUp— methodologies, tools, and operating rhythms that others can learn from and replicate.

  • Serve as BetterUp’s foremost expert in transformation strategy with recognized external influence on how AI-powered change management reshapes the industry.

  • Lead enterprise-wide client engagements for the most complex, high-stakes deployments—designing narrative-led, behaviorally grounded change activationchange communications strategies and stakeholder architectures that drive real adoption across global organizations.

  • Rapidly diagnose client contexts, uncover root causes of adoption failure, and architect strategic narratives and activation approaches that shift behavior at scale.

  • Architect executive influence strategies acting as a truth-teller with backbone for CHRO- and CEO-level client stakeholders. Know when to hold firm on critical principles and how to do so with credibility and diplomacy.Know which hill to die on and how to hold ground diplomatically.

  • Directly contribute to competitive differentiation through breakthrough applications of change methodology, AI, and communications design that define market leadership.

  • Mentor and scale capability across the team by building systems, playbooks, and learning loops that elevate how BetterUp delivers change and multiply senior practitioners across the Services team—not just modeling best practices, but architecting how the team and clients think about change, AI adoption, and transformation.

If You Have Some or All of the Following, Please Apply
  • 12+ years of experience in enterprise transformation, change management, or organizational strategy—ideally spanning both consultative and in-house environments.

  • Proven ability to parachute into ambiguous enterprise environments, build trust quickly, and diagnose and shape transformation strategy in real time.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate at the intersection of change strategy, communications design, and experience craft—with a portfolio of high-stakes engagements to back it up.

  • A track record of influencing C-suite stakeholders and acting as a trusted advisor on transformation strategy, not just delivery.

  • Experience building functions, practices, or methodologies from scratch—comfortable writing the playbook when none exists.

  • Exceptional communication skills: able to architect a narrative that moves hearts and minds at scale, and coach others to do the same.

  • Deep familiarity with large-scale global organizations—the complexity, the politics, and what it actually takes to drive behavior change across 50,000+ employees.

  • Formal change management credentials (Prosci, CCMP, Kotter, PMP) or equivalent demonstrated expertise.

  • Multi-disciplinary range: you can think like a consultant, deliver like a marketer, and direct like a creative lead—with a high bar for quality across copy, visuals, and experience design.

  • Resilience and adaptability across intense launch cycles and quieter sustain phases, without burning out or cutting corners.

The base salary range for this role is as follows:

$216,000 – $270,000: New York City, San Francisco and Seattle

$194,400 – $243,000: All other locations
