The Principal Engineer for the Offers Platform will serve as the technical leader responsible for architecting, designing, and guiding the development of robust, scalable solutions that power our offers ecosystem.
About the Role:
Key responsibilities include setting engineering standards, mentoring senior engineers, and overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of platform enhancements.
The Principal Engineer will analyze complex business requirements, propose technical solutions, and lead critical projects from conception to deployment.
They will ensure best practices in software development, performance optimization, and security are upheld throughout the platform.• Lead architecture and design of core offers platform components• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence• Drive platform scalability, reliability, and performance improvements• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends• Champion code quality, automation, and continuous integration• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
All About You:• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field• Extensive background in software engineering, including platform architecture and technical leadership• Strong hands-on experience building enterprise-scale applications using Java and related JVM technologies• Proven expertise designing and implementing RESTful web services, APIs, and microservices-based architectures• Experience with Spring ecosystem technologies such as Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud• Strong database experience with PostgreSQL and relational data modeling; familiarity with NoSQL technologies is a plus• Experience with modern front-end technologies such as React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS• Experience designing and operating distributed systems using big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or similar platforms• Hands-on experience with cloud-native application development and deployment using AWS, PCF, Kubernetes, Docker, or comparable platforms• Solid understanding of cloud platforms, distributed systems, API design, observability, resiliency, performance tuning, and secure software development practices• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality practices, and DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, Maven, Gradle, SonarQube, or similar technologies• Strong understanding of security, scalability, reliability, and high-availability principles• Excellent leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.
