About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

As a Staff Process Engineer under the Capital Projects Engineering and Design Department, you create Aspen and hydraulic models for chemical and powder manufacturing processes. You are a chemical or mechanical engineer with deep expertise in control valve selection and sizing, PSV calculations and sizing, and the definition of process conditions for instrument and component selections. You are familiar with various operating modes of equipment and are capable of specifying and selecting control valves, PSVs, and components for multiple scenarios for steady-state and process ramps. You are highly tolerant of ambiguity and capable of making engineering assumptions for first-of-kind technology scale-up.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Drive detailed process design activities for various Capital Projects for a first-of-kind manufacturing facility for silicon anode material, which may include process manufacturing equipment, pressure vessels, bulk gases, bulk chemicals, and powder material handling.
  • Serve as process engineer of record for PHA’s, HAZOP’s, and other risk reviews and gap assessments.
  •  Review deliverable quality from external design firms and/or more junior process engineers within Sila.
  • Create and review Process Engineering deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Heat and Material Balances, Line Lists, Aspen and hydraulic models, Process Safety Valve (PSV) sizing cases and calculations, control valve sizing and datasheets, and other process component and piping specialties datasheets.
  • Review bid packages and technical submittals for Process equipment and components for code compliance and design quality.
  • Answer RFI’s from construction teams and external design firms as necessary regarding Process deliverables and scope.
  • Make expert Owner determinations regarding fluid service designations for line lists.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Extensive experience in process design and PSV, control valve, and component sizing and specification. Solids handling or silane chemistry experience a plus.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain comity licensure in WA preferred.
  • Experience working with or for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company, especially in an owner-operator capacity preferred.
  • Background in semiconductor, battery materials, battery cell, or specialty materials companies with indoor and outdoor facilities highly preferred.
  • Self-driven, “can-do” attitude fitting a nimble startup scaling into mass production.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Wear personal protective equipment while in construction zones including, but not limited to, a hard hat, safety glasses, and safety shoes
  • Walk moderate distances and/or be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Climb stairs or over containment walls < 3 feet
  • Use ladders and wear fall protection to inspect production equipment as necessary
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment

Work Schedule

Regular Shift: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm

The starting base pay for this role is between $151,000 and $191,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
