The Role
As Product Counsel for Cash App, handling credit, lending and credit reporting issues, you'll have a broad range of responsibilities providing legal guidance on lending and credit issues, including credit reporting agency issues. Our Primary Product offerings that you would be involved with include: Lending products (such as our buy now pay letter products), Afterpay and credit risk rating/credit rating agency work. As we expand, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate and meaningful impact.
You Will
  • Provide guidance to product, risk, design, eng, customer support and other teams on lending, credit and credit reporting agency issues and help build new lending and credit related products.
  • Provide actionable legal advice concerning consumer lending laws and consumer lending products, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), Dodd Frank, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Develop trusted relationships with partners and stay informed on key product developments.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements affecting your products and services
  • Draft terms of use, product policies, and product disclosures
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners (tax, compliance, accounting, and outside counsel) to provide seamless support.
  • Cultivate creative ideas and insights into how legal frameworks can support new product developments and customer experiences.

You Have
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in at least one state bar.
  • 6+ years of combined, relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, or in-house legal departments.
  • Significant expertise in consumer lending laws and consumer lending products, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), Dodd Frank, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and reorient in an evolving regulatory and business environment.
  • Familiarity with launching and marketing products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space.
  • Sound, practical business judgment, and creativity solving problems.
  • Excellent drafting skills.

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
