The Opportunity

At Grammarly, we’re not just another tech company. We help people communicate better with the world around them in their everyday lives. With both Superhuman and Coda—now part of Grammarly—we’re reimagining the productivity suite for the AI era. To make this vision real, we’re looking for an innovative and quick learning intern to  join our tight-knit Design team for three months in summer 2026.

As a Product Design Intern, you will help tackle some of Grammarly’s most exciting design challenges. In this role, you will:

  • Partner with a mentor to scope and deliver an end-to-end design project that directly supports your team's strategic objectives.
  • Create and iterate on user flows, wireframes, and prototypes that help bring ideas to life.
  • Conduct research and usability testing to inform design decisions and advocate for user needs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other designers to create impactful solutions for tens of millions of daily active users.
  • Participate in weekly design critiques to share your work, gather feedback, and refine your design thinking.
  • Contribute to Grammarly's design system, gaining hands-on experience with maintaining consistency and scalability across platforms.

Qualifications

  • Can collaborate in person in our San Francisco hub at least two days per week.
  • Is available for the entire duration of a twelve-week program.
  • Is currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program and in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in human-computer interaction, user experience design, interaction design, user-centered design, product design, or another related field.
  • Has a portfolio showcasing user-centered design work, whether from coursework, passion projects, or previous internships.
  • Familiarity with Figma and other prototyping tools.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and communication skills, especially when articulating design decisions and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Is excited to learn and grow as a designer!

Compensation and Benefits

The expected pay for this position is $41.00 - $48.00 USD/hour and may be modified in the future.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
