Lead definition and delivery of an MVP for a new digital financial-planning offering. Translate vision into roadmap, work hands-on with engineering and design, run experiments and user research, define KPIs, use prototypes and data to validate assumptions, and align stakeholders through ambiguity. Identify opportunities to apply AI and balance customer, technical, and business tradeoffs.

Thrivent is incubating a new digital planning offering designed to make financial advice accessible to more people by:
• Lowering traditional barriers such as high asset minimums and costly planning fees
• Making financial guidance simpler and more actionable
• Rethinking the cost structure and delivery model that limits who can be served efficiently.

We are hiring a Senior Product Manager to define and deliver the minimum viable product (MVP), turning an early-stage concept into a focused, shippable offering
This role combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution. You will work directly with engineers and designers to test assumptions, make tradeoffs, and accelerate learning around customer desirability, technical feasibility, and the business model.
This is not a mature product with an established roadmap. You will operate in a startup-like environment with limited structure, evolving scope, and imperfect information.

What You’ll Do

  • Own MVP definition and delivery from concept through launch

  • Translate an evolving vision into a clear roadmap, sequenced backlog, and release plan

  • Determine what is essential for launch, what can wait, and where the team should make tradeoffs

  • Set product direction while staying close to day-to-day execution

  • Work side-by-side with engineering and design to balance customer experience, technical feasibility, speed, and business value

  • Engage with customers and users to uncover needs and turn insights into testable product hypotheses

  • Use prototypes, early builds, customer feedback, and product data to validate assumptions and refine the offering

  • Define product outcomes and key performance indicators that connect to broader business goals

  • Identify practical opportunities to use emerging technologies, including AI, to improve the product and accelerate learning

  • Align stakeholders, resolve competing priorities, and keep the team moving through ambiguity

Who You Are

  • Strategic and decisive—you can set direction and make clear calls without perfect information

  • Entrepreneurial—you are comfortable building within an environment of limited structure and evolving scope

  • Proven in delivery—you have taken digital products or meaningful product capabilities from concept through launch

  • Hands-on and low-ego—you are willing to do both the thinking and the execution

  • Technically fluent—you can work closely with engineers and engage thoughtfully in technical tradeoffs

  • Customer-driven—you use research, experimentation, and feedback to guide decisions

  • AI-curious or experienced—you are interested in how AI can improve product development and the customer experience

  • A strong collaborator—you can influence across functions and organizational levels without relying on formal authority

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 10 or more years of relevant business experience, including experience as a product manager, product owner, or similar product leader

  • Demonstrated success launching a digital product or significant product capability

  • Experience defining and delivering an MVP in an ambiguous or rapidly evolving environment

  • Strong understanding of Agile product management, iterative development, and the software-development lifecycle

  • Experience working directly with engineering and design teams.

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to balance customer, business, and technical considerations

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, collaboration, and influencing skills

Preferred

  • Experience in a startup, scale-up, incubation team, innovation lab, or other entrepreneurial environment

  • Experience in financial planning, wealth management, fintech, or consumer financial services

  • Experience applying AI or other emerging technologies to digital products

  • Experience developing product strategies, roadmaps, business cases, and measurable product outcomes

  • Product management or Agile certification

Additional Information

  • No direct reports initially; this role will lead a cross-functional product team through influence

  • Senior individual-contributor position with potential for expanded leadership as the offering grows

  • Remote role with approximately 10% travel, typically to Minneapolis or Chicago
