OpenAI’s mission is to ensure the responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. In support of that mission, the Marketing team helps deeply understand customer audiences and market dynamics, influence the development of the right products, build sustainable and customer-aligned monetization models, and drive awareness, adoption, and usage across OpenAI’s products and platform.

We take a data-driven approach to understand markets, develop monetization strategies, and uncover customer needs that shape product strategy and messaging. We partner closely with Sales, Partnerships, Product, Engineering, Research, Comms, and Design to deliver a cohesive end-to-end customer experience and lead go-to-market efforts for new product launches across channels.

About the role

We’re looking for a Product Marketing Manager, Advertising to bring together advertiser insights, market understanding, and product knowledge to shape positioning, inform product priorities, and deliver go-to-market initiatives that drive adoption and measurable business impact.

You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Partnerships to understand advertiser needs, translate complex AI capabilities into clear customer value, and bring new products and features to market. This role is ideal for someone who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, independently navigates ambiguity, and brings cross-functional partners together to deliver results.

In this role you will:
  • Define the product and marketing strategy for a component of OpenAI’s advertising business in partnership with cross-functional partners

  • Develop a deep understanding of advertisers through customer research, market analysis, and competitive insights, identifying opportunities to improve positioning, adoption, and product-market fit.

  • Own positioning and messaging for your product area, translating complex capabilities into compelling narratives for different advertiser audiences and use cases.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to bring advertiser needs and market insights into roadmap discussions and product decisions.

  • Develop and drive go-to-market plans for new products and features, owning marketing execution from planning through launch and ongoing adoption.

  • Create advertiser-facing content and sales enablement materials, including product narratives, sales decks, one-pagers, FAQs, and launch communications.

  • Partner with Sales, Partnerships, Data Science, and Analytics to define success metrics, assess launch and adoption performance, and turn findings into improvements.

  • Surface advertiser concerns and launch risks related to performance, safety, policy, and trust, working with the relevant teams to address them in launch plans and customer communications.

  • Align cross-functional partners around priorities, responsibilities, and timelines, making thoughtful tradeoffs and resolving blockers within your initiatives.

  • Build repeatable approaches to launches, messaging, and enablement, sharing learnings and mentoring peers to improve the team’s storytelling and execution.

You might be a great fit if you…
  • Have experience independently developing product and marketing strategies and bringing products to market, particularly in advertising, marketing technology, platforms, or data and AI.

  • Have experience in structured problem solving environments including but not limited to strategy/management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy and venture capital

  • Understand advertiser goals and the advertising ecosystem, including measurement, targeting and relevance, creative, auctions, and performance tradeoffs.

  • Can turn customer research and market insights into clear positioning, actionable go-to-market plans, and recommendations that inform product priorities.

  • Communicate clearly and persuasively, translating technical concepts into differentiated customer value for a range of audiences.

  • Use qualitative and quantitative evidence—including customer interviews, surveys, adoption data, and experiments—to make decisions and improve results.

  • Bring structured problem solving and strong judgment to ambiguous challenges, independently setting priorities and managing initiatives from strategy through execution.

  • Build effective partnerships across Product, Engineering, Sales, and other teams, influencing decisions and driving alignment without formal authority.

  • Enjoy improving how teams work, sharing your expertise, and helping peers strengthen their craft.
