About the Team

The B2B Marketing team contributes to OpenAI’s broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. We are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform. We take a data-driven approach to understand our customers' needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with Product, Engineering, Growth, Sales, Research, Comms, and Design teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels.

About the Role

As a Product Marketing Manager (PMM) for small businesses (SMB), you will define and drive marketing strategies that fuel adoption, engagement, and long-term growth across OpenAI’s product portfolio serving small business customers. This includes ChatGPT Business, our API/Platform, Codex, and new products and features designed to help small businesses build, automate, and scale with AI.

This role calls for a strategic marketer who can craft compelling narratives by deeply understanding both OpenAI’s products and the evolving needs of small businesses — from founders and business owners to technical builders. You will translate complex technical functionality into clear, role-based value across a range of SMB use cases.

You will drive go-to-market strategy for the SMB segment across multiple products, helping ensure small businesses thrive wherever they are in their AI adoption journey: from first experimentation to scaled deployment. This includes shaping positioning, segmentation, messaging, and lifecycle strategy that drives acquisition, activation, expansion, and retention within the SMB customer base.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and execute SMB-focused go-to-market strategies across ChatGPT Business, the OpenAI API, Codex, and new products and feature launches.

  • Define segmentation, positioning, and messaging tailored to small business personas across industries, roles, and levels of technical maturity.

  • Collaborate with product and research teams to translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-centric messaging.

  • Leverage market research and competitive analysis to inform product positioning and identify growth opportunities.

  • Create and manage marketing campaigns, content, and materials that grow engagement, adoption and revenue.

  • Analyze product usage data and user feedback to refine marketing strategies and improve user experience.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 12+ years of experience in product marketing or segment marketing within technology or SaaS.

  • Have experience marketing platform, developer, or product-led offerings to SMB or mid-market audiences.

  • Have a strong understanding of AI technologies and the ability to articulate their value to both technical and non-technical business users.

  • Have led successful product launches or growth initiatives that drive adoption and expansion.

  • Are comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Take a customer-back approach to segmentation, positioning, and lifecycle strategy.
