Peak Energy
Job Title: Director, Project Manager
Location: Burlingame, CA
Department: Projects Team
Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer (CSO)
Position Type: Full-time

About the Company
Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid. Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available, and safe — making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market. Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, Apple, Powin, Enovix, Zipline, Solid Power, and Fluence. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures. We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.

About the Job
As Director, Project Manager, you will lead the end-to-end development of utility-scale energy storage projects — from site origination and permitting through interconnection, offtake, construction, and commissioning. This is a deeply hands-on role for someone who has personally developed and advanced projects through complex local, utility, and regulatory processes. You’ll drive every critical step: securing land, obtaining permits, managing interconnection, building community relationships, and ensuring each project is technically and financially viable. You’ll collaborate closely with Peak’s engineering, finance, and operations teams while representing Peak externally with landowners, regulators, and development partners to bring our projects from concept to reality.

Responsibilities
• Lead full-cycle project execution — from site identification, land acquisition, permitting, and environmental due diligence through to construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
• Drive interconnection strategy: manage queue positions, track utility milestones, and coordinate technical studies with ISOs/RTOs.
• Own stakeholder engagement: interface with landowners, local officials, and permitting agencies to secure approvals and community support.
• Oversee permitting and compliance: manage local, state, and federal requirements to maintain project timelines and mitigate risk.
• Coordinate project economics: work cross-functionally with finance and engineering to ensure commercial viability, optimize design, and de-risk development.
• Support construction and commissioning activities in collaboration with engineering and operations, ensuring smooth project transition from development to execution.
• Track and report progress: maintain project documentation, budgets, schedules, and risk registers; provide transparent updates to leadership.
• Represent Peak externally: build strong relationships with utilities, EPCs, and development partners to grow the long-term project pipeline.
• Travel as needed to sites, counties, and public meetings to advance project milestones.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, Engineering, Energy, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy project development (solar, wind, or storage).
• Proven track record taking projects from early-stage site control through NTP — including land acquisition, permitting, interconnection, and stakeholder management.
• Deep familiarity with zoning, permitting, and environmental review processes at county and state levels.
• Strong understanding of power markets, site feasibility, and project economics.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; experience engaging with communities, regulators, and landowners.
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
• Willingness to travel frequently for site visits, public meetings, and partner engagement.
• Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and advancing large-scale clean infrastructure.
• Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications
• Direct experience developing and delivering utility-scale battery storage projects.
• Existing relationships with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, EPCs, and permitting authorities.
• Experience negotiating land agreements and presenting at public or regulatory hearings.
• Familiarity with IRA incentives, tax credits, and energy market structures.
• Experience coordinating technical and commercial workstreams to achieve financing, construction, and commissioning milestones.

The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $200,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills.
