About Sentry

Bad software is everywhere, and we’re tired of it. Sentry is on a mission to help developers write better software faster, so we can get back to enjoying technology.

With more than $127 million in funding and 80,000 organizations that believe we’re on to something, we're building performance and error monitoring tools that help companies like Disney, Microsoft, and Atlassian spend less time fixing bugs and more time building products. If you like to selfishly build things that make your digital life better, come help us build the next generation of software monitoring tools.

About this Role

Sentry started life in 2008 as an open-source side project, and we work hard to stay true to our roots while we scale as a company. We offer a self-hosted version of the Sentry product that is feature complete, and as open source as we can make it. Sentry is built by developers for developers, so our engineers and product managers are active on open-source channels such as GitHub and Discord, engaging in real conversations to make Sentry even better than it already is.

The Open Source Program Office works with teams across the company to deliver the experience that our customers and the wider developer community expect from a commercial open source project such as ours. You will be the first Open Source Program Manager to join the team, which started three years ago with a focus on release engineering and community automation, and is now expanding into a proper OSPO to coordinate with teams such as Support, Marketing, Legal, and Finance in addition to Product Engineering.

In this role you will:

  • Build and run programs (but not, like, computer programs) that connect other Sentry teams with the open source community.
  • Pitch leadership each quarter on the opportunities you want to go after, work backwards from the desired impact to define milestones, and execute against your objectives.
  • Interact with Sentry's open source community where'er they may be: GitHub, Twitter, Discord, meetups, conferences, and the like.
  • Write some computer programs (it turns out). You won't be hacking on the main Sentry product, but you will be responsible for shipping self-hosted Sentry, community automation, and metrics collection and visualization related to the (non-computer) programs you build.
  • Talk about your work publicly on Sentry's blog and in other venues. We fancy ourselves to be a leading open source company, with a lot to say about what that means.

You'll love this job if you:

  • Believe in open source.
  • Want to define the state of the art in commercial open source.
  • Are good with code and great with people.
  • Enjoy executing on organizational change.

You will work on the team that has:

  • Given $154,999.89 to open source maintainers—which is kind of a lot for a company our size.
  • Figured out how to scale GitHub issue triage as if it were customer support.
  • Shipped self-hosted Sentry for years now.

Qualifications

  • Both engineering and program management experience, minimum 5+ years (combined).
  • Ability to identify opportunities, instrument systems for visibility, and incentivize individuals to participate using carrots instead of sticks.
  • Eagerness to write shell scripts and YAML and LookML and JavaScript and Python and whatever else it takes to achieve our dreams.
  • Experience communicating publicly (blogging, twittering, speaking, community channels).
  • Evidence of Open Source Passion™.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees, 75% company-paid for dependents
  • Monthly commuter subsidy
  • 401k program (US)
  • Learning & Development stipend
  • Charitable matching program
  • Generous parental leave policy
  • Flexible working schedule and vacation policy, work from home policy, and real work/life balance
  • Catered lunches
  • Company events (Hack Weeks, All Hands, quarterly social events) and friends and family events

Sentry values diversity and inclusivity in our company and is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
