Summary

Guidewire is seeking a QA Engineer with expertise in validating, automating, and ensuring the quality of microservices and API-based systems. As a QA Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and executing test strategies for our NextGen HazardHub microservices ecosystem — the industry’s most comprehensive set of property risk data, casualty risk data, and hazard risk scoring in the P&C insurance sector. You will work closely with engineering, GIS analysts, and product teams to define, implement, and maintain automated testing frameworks, performance benchmarks, and security validation processes for our APIs and backend services.
You must have strong knowledge of API testing technologies (such as REST, GraphQL, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman/Bruno), test automation frameworks (Pytest, REST Assured, Playwright, Cypress), and cloud testing environments (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP). A solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.) and modern QA practices, including contract testing, performance testing, and shift-left strategies, is essential.
Who We Are, What We Believe, & What We Build
Guidewire is the market leader that 400+ insurance companies trust to run their critical platform. Every second, we support underwriters crafting policies and agents settling claims. We believe making a great decision should not require 100 in-house data scientists. Our products range from cyber risk quantification to potent ML sandboxes. We are a post-IPO company with the vision to change insurance. There is a lot to be done!

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • As an individual contributor within the QA team, design, develop, and maintain automated API test suites for geospatial APIs and microservices serving Hazard data.

  • Apply a problem-solving mindset to identify gaps, debug failures, and drive test efficiency and reliability.

  • Collaborate with developers, GIS analysts, and Product teams to define API acceptance criteria and ensure test coverage aligns with business needs.

  • Validate data accuracy and transformations across API responses, databases, and geospatial layers.

  • Implement contract testing (OpenAPI, Pact, Schemathesis) to ensure API schema compliance across services.

  • Develop performance/load testing scripts (Locust, JMeter, k6) for latency, throughput, and scalability validation.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD-integrated test pipelines for regression, smoke, and sanity testing.

  • Conduct functional, integration, and end-to-end testing across backend services and UI workflows.

  • Monitor automated test results, troubleshoot failures, and collaborate with engineering teams on root cause analysis.

  • Perform security and authentication validation for all API endpoints (OAuth2, JWT, API key-based).

  • Maintain reusable test data sets and ensure consistency across environments.

  • Document test plans, test cases, and QA processes for knowledge sharing and compliance purposes.

  • At Guidewire, we foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and responsible use of AI—empowering our teams to continuously leverage emerging technologies and data-driven insights to enhance productivity and outcomes.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in QA for enterprise-level APIs / Microservices.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues across services, infrastructure, and data layers.

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Proficiency in API testing tools such as Postman, Bruno, REST Assured, and Playwright for API, along with automation frameworks such as Selenium and Playwright (with TypeScript or JavaScript) for UI and API testing.

  • Experience with backend testing for languages such as Go, Python, Java, or Ruby.

  • Hands-on experience with contract testing (OpenAPI, Pact, Schemathesis).

  • Experience with performance testing tools (Locust, JMeter, k6).

  • Proficiency with cloud-based environments and containers (AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD processes with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.

  • Familiarity with SQL, PostGIS, and validating geospatial datasets is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of QA best practices, risk-based testing, and shift-left QA strategies.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your role as well as use data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $96,000 - $144,000 . Your base pay will depend on your experience, skills, education, training, and location among other factors. All full-time positions or part-time roles working 30 hours or more a week at Guidewire are eligible for benefits that support their health and well-being including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a company sponsored retirement plan.
