As a Quality Engineer, you will ensure quality within Scrum teams, defining and executing test strategies, and enhancing automation frameworks while promoting a shift-left quality mindset.
Hi, we’re Gravie. Our mission is to improve the way people purchase and access healthcare through innovative, consumer-centric health benefit solutions that people can actually use. Our industry-changing products and services are developed and delivered by a diverse group of unique people. We encourage you to be your authentic self - we like you that way.
We are growing quickly and investing in the next generation of our ICHRA and health benefits platform, a reliable, compliant, and scalable system that makes it easier for people to access and manage healthcare. To achieve this, we are building cross-functional teams where quality is owned by everyone, with dedicated Quality Engineers embedded in each team to ensure our products are robust, testable, and continuously improving
A Little More About The role:
Engineer at Gravie, you will be the quality champion within your Scrum team. You will take ownership of test strategy, automation, and quality visibility from planning through release.
This role is both hands-on and enabling. You will write automated tests, perform manual and exploratory testing when needed, and help your team build the habits and technical capabilities to take full ownership of quality. You will leverage existing tools and frameworks, enhance them where appropriate, and promote a culture of continuous improvement in how software quality is achieved and maintained.
You will:
· Serve as the embedded quality leader on your Scrum team, ensuring quality is built into every stage of development.
· Define and execute test strategies across functional, integration, regression, and non-functional domains.
· Utilize and enhance existing automation frameworks and suites for APIs, UI, and backend components using modern tools and languages such as Java, TypeScript, Cypress, Playwright, or similar.
· Perform manual and exploratory testing to validate user experience, business logic, and edge cases that automation does not yet cover.
· Partner with engineers to extend automated testing coverage within the development workflow, enabling the team to own automation alongside you.
· Lead root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions to prevent recurring defects.
· Partner with Product to define clear, measurable acceptance criteria and ensure user stories are testable and complete.
· Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, reliable validation of builds.
· Promote a shift-left quality mindset through collaboration, code reviews, and active pairing with developers.
· Monitor and report on quality metrics such as defect density, automation coverage, and release readiness to improve transparency and predictability.
· Collaborate with DevOps and SRE teams to ensure test environments are stable, representative, and available.
· Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve testing efficiency, coverage, and feedback cycles.
· Act as a mentor and advocate for quality engineering practices across Gravie.
Who You Are:
· Experienced Quality Engineer who thrives in fast-paced, agile product environments.
· Skilled in maintaining and evolving automation frameworks while also valuing thoughtful manual and exploratory testing.
· Strong collaborator who enables the team to own testing, quality, and automation rather than operating as a gatekeeper.
· Confident with CI/CD pipelines and integrating tests into continuous delivery workflows.
· Curious and analytical, with strong attention to detail and a drive to continuously improve both systems and process.
· Excellent communicator who can clearly articulate risks, tradeoffs, and quality metrics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
· Passionate about using technology and innovation, including AI, to simplify and strengthen quality processes.
· Pragmatic problem solver who balances thoroughness with speed and impact.
You bring:
· 5 or more years of experience in software quality engineering, with at least 2 years embedded on agile product teams.
· Proven success implementing and extending automated test suites for web applications, APIs, and backend systems.
· Strong programming skills in at least one modern language such as Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
· Hands-on experience with test frameworks and tools such as Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium.
· Experience validating REST APIs using Postman, ReadyAPI, or code-based frameworks.
· Working knowledge of SQL for data validation and backend testing.
· Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar, and test management tools such as Jira or TestRail.
· Understanding of non-functional testing concepts such as performance, security, and reliability testing.
· You must be eligible to work in the United States without need of sponsorship now or in the future.
Extra credit:
· Previous experience at a high growth company.
