Quality Manager
Engineering - Fremont, California

The Quality Manager is a key leader within Pivotal Systems' quality organization, reporting to the Director of Quality, and plays a central role in advancing Fremont's quality capabilities while driving the development, standardization, and unification of quality processes across Pivotal's global sites (Malaysia, Korea) as the company scales to support major semiconductor customers and prepares for increased site audit activity. This is a hands-on, process-focused leadership role: the Quality Manager partners closely with engineering, production, and site teams to evolve and strengthen quality systems, champion Fremont's practices across the organization, and mentor quality engineering staff in doing the same.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Fremont's quality function as a model for the broader organization — strengthening internal processes, document control, and team capability to support multi-site growth.
  • Own and administer Pivotal's document control system — ensure procedures, work instructions, and controlled documents remain current, properly reviewed, and retired when obsolete, across all sites. Evaluate and implement tooling (eQMS platform) to support scalable, auditable version control across multiple locations.
  • Partner with quality engineers at Pivotal's global facilities to assess site-specific QMS practices, and drive unification of site QMS practices into a single, coherent global quality system — aligning best practices across sites while adapting to each site's operational reality.
  • Lead and mentor Fremont-based quality engineering staff; help develop team members' skills in process design, root cause investigation, and quality system ownership.
  • Lead supplier quality program initiatives — documentation of customer POR, supplier qualifications, supplier audits, and incoming inspection/lot inspection policy.
  • Actively participate in Change Control Board (CCB) reviews, ensuring risk assessment and impact evaluation on quality systems.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for major customer quality interactions, including status reviews, escalations, and corrective action follow-up — representing Pivotal's quality organization credibly and professionally in customer-facing settings.
  • Support and prepare for customer and certification body audits (ISO 9001:2015), including site readiness at Fremont, Malaysia, and Korea.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues and drive corrective/preventive action (CAPA/8D).
  • Represent quality in customer-facing discussions and site audits as needed, including periodic international travel to support global site alignment and audit readiness.
  • Contribute to and help implement a company-wide quality/safety alert system, ensuring production staff at any site can escalate quality or safety concerns without risk of reprisal.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.).
  • 7+ years of experience in quality engineering or quality management roles, with demonstrated experience building or maturing quality systems — not solely maintaining existing ones.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality tools and methodologies (8D, FMEA, SPC, Root Cause Analysis, CAPA).
  • Experience implementing or administering document control systems, ideally within an eQMS platform (e.g., MasterControl, Arena, Qualio, ETQ, or similar).
  • Experience developing or unifying QMS processes across multiple sites or business units.
  • Experience with supplier quality programs — qualification, audit, and ongoing performance management.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 internal and external audits; direct audit-preparation experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior quality engineering staff.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, with comfort operating in customer-facing and international contexts.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally (Malaysia, Korea) as needed to support site quality initiatives and audit readiness.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in semiconductor, aerospace, or other highly regulated precision manufacturing industries.
  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher).
  • Experience standing up or repairing a document control system from a degraded or inconsistent state.
  • Familiarity with copy-exact methodology or similar process replication frameworks used by semiconductor capital equipment customers.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, or similar).
