About Opal Security:

At Opal, we’re building modern identity governance for the AI era—intelligent access management that empowers enterprises to move fast while staying secure. Our mission is to bring clarity, control, and confidence to complex enterprise environments, helping teams govern access without slowing down innovation.

The Role:

Opal Security’s ability to grow its team while preserving all the things we love (belief in the mission, spontaneous fun, highly skilled and hardworking colleagues) is fundamental to this next phase of growth and we need an excellent recruiter to achieve this.

Thats where you come in. You’ll be our sole, dedicated recruiter reporting to our Head of People. Your focus will be on building Go-to-Market hiring, but this isn’t a siloed role. If other roles intrigue you, you’ll be encouraged to take them on and you will have the opportunity to flex into broader strategic people work as you grow.

FYI - we are building Opal together, in person. This role is 3+ days in office in downtown San Francisco.

What You’ll Do:

  • Create an effective, creative sourcing strategy that actually converts LinkedIn DMs to recruiter calls

  • Become a true partner to our hiring managers: truly get to know their team, develop an opinion on who should join the team next, and help to continually evolve our interview process

  • Bring Opal to IRL.. go to events, go to meetups, bring engineers to our office for pizza and Mario Kart

  • Help build the infrastructure around how we hire: market maps, employer brand, and how Opal shows up to candidates before they ever apply

  • Manage the candidate experience from sourcing through close

  • As you ramp, there will be opportunity to flex into broader People Ops and HR work (if you want… or just recruit, recruit, recruit)

You Might Be a Fit If You:

  • Have ~3–5+ years of recruiting experience, ideally some of that at a startup or high-growth company

  • Have sourced and closed candidates for Engineering and/or GTM roles

  • Are comfortable operating as a solo recruiter and you don't need a big team around you to do great work

  • Are a critical thinker, data-driven, and Claude-confident (or at least Claude-curious)

  • Are hungry to grow with a company… you want more ownership and scope than you've previously had

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
