Skills & experience:
Constellation is an independent research center that brings together people throughout the AI safety ecosystem to accelerate insight, research, and talent through better cooperation. Unlike a conference or summit, Constellation operates continuously, in the form of a physical workspace as well as conference-style talks, workshops, and training bootcamps. Continuous operation allows for relationships and conversations to develop over time, meaningfully fostering trust, collaboration, and shared insight. It also makes Constellation a natural field-building hub by rapidly inspiring, orienting, and connecting people who are newer to the field.
Based in Berkeley, CA, our shared workspace hosts over 200 people per week across dozens of AI safety organizations in nonprofits, academia, industry, and government. Hundreds of other researchers spend time at Constellation for shorter visits each year. We believe this is the strongest and highest-output network of AI safety researchers in the world; dozens of participants in past Constellation programs have gone on to safety-focused roles at companies such as METR, Redwood Research, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and the US and UK Safety Institutes.
About the roleThe AI safety field lacks the capacity, capability, and cooperation needed to safely navigate transformative AI. Constellation addresses these gaps, by mobilizing new and existing talent (to improve field capacity), incubating and growing projects, teams and organizations (to improve field capability), and convening field contributors (to improve field cooperation). There is more talent that can contribute to safety than has been mobilized into the field, and the field as a whole needs to grow to meet the demand for top talent working across all areas.
Here at Constellation our team is growing in order to support the field’s growth. That’s where you come in. We are looking for a high impact recruiter to build the team that builds Constellation and in turn grows the overall AI safety field. As Recruiter at Constellation, you'll own end-to-end hiring processes while also building the systems and practices that help us scale our impact. You'll be the primary driver of candidate experience, the architect of recruiting workflows, and a trusted partner to hiring managers.
This role requires someone who thrives in environments where you are scrappy, action-oriented, and energized by the challenge of implementing just the right level of structure in a fast-moving organization. You'll work autonomously, make real-time tradeoffs with imperfect information, and adapt quickly to the unique dynamics of the AI safety ecosystem. If you're intellectually curious, excited by problem solving, and want your work to directly support the growth of mission-critical teams, this is the role.
- Own end-to-end recruitment processes from sourcing through offer acceptance, ensuring smooth candidate experience at every stage.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for candidates, managing scheduling, communications, and onsite coordination through Slack channels and other systems.
- Partner with hiring managers to develop interview frameworks and evaluation criteria that maintain a high talent bar while being inclusive and efficient.
Candidate Experience & Coordination
- Act as the face of Constellation for candidates, providing clear communication, timely updates, and warm, professional interactions throughout the hiring process.
- Manage onsite candidate visits, including greeting, coordination, and ensuring a seamless experience.
- Educate candidates about the AI safety ecosystem, helping them understand the landscape and opportunities within this unique and nascent field.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Continuously optimize recruitment workflows, tools, and systems to improve efficiency and scale your impact.
- Identify opportunities to leverage better tooling, vendor relationships, and creative partnerships to scale recruiting efforts without proportionally increasing costs.
- Manage and improve applicant tracking systems and recruiting data to inform decision-making.
Strategic Advisory & Ecosystem Support
- Develop strong judgment about when standard recruiting best practices apply and when to create something bespoke for our context.
- Push back constructively when needed, informing decisions with data and first-principles thinking rather than relying solely on conventional wisdom.
- As capacity allows, provide advisory recruiting support to partner organizations in the AI safety ecosystem (e.g., helping organizations with evaluation criteria or process design).
Skills & experience:
You may be a good fit if:
- You have experience managing end-to-end recruitment processes with demonstrated ability to work autonomously and deliver results in fast-paced environments.
- You bring a startup mentality; comfortable with scrappiness, ambiguity, and building systems from scratch rather than inheriting established processes. Experience scaling recruiting operations is a plus.
- You are a natural problem solver who sees challenges as opportunities and adapts quickly to what the organization needs rather than fitting work into predetermined boxes.
- You have strong coordination and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail in managing candidate flow, scheduling, and communications.
- You can make real-time tradeoffs with limited information, knowing when to follow standard practices and when to create something new.
- You bring intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about a unique, nascent field.
- You have the confidence and experience to push back constructively, informing decisions with data and sound judgment rather than defaulting to convention.
- You are mission aligned and values driven, with passion for helping humanity safely navigate the development of transformative AI.
The base pay range for this role is $90,000 – $130,000 per year.
Our benefits are hard to beat! They include:

- Unlimited snacks & drinks
- Generous vacation policy
- 401(k) with employer match

- Friendly and supportive team
- Regular interaction with AI safety researchers and thought leaders
This is a full time, on-site role. Our Berkeley office is a few steps from the nearest BART (metro) and bus stop. On-site parking is also available.
The ideal candidate for this role will have some combination of the skills and experiences described above. If you are not sure if you are qualified, we strongly encourage you to apply anyway. Beyond the qualifications outlined, our priority is building a team that will help humanity safely navigate the development of transformative AI. If you would be excited to do this work, we’d love to consider you.
We value diversity in all respects and base our hiring decisions on the needs of the organization and individual qualifications. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age or disability.
