Remote Phone Fundraiser - Human Rights & Nonprofit Causes

$19-$24/hour | 40 Hours/Week | Fully Remote

Use Your Voice for Human Rights

Can you take an issue you care about and make someone else understand why it matters?

Public Outreach is building a new U.S. remote fundraising team, and we're looking for full-time Phone Fundraisers.

You'll speak with people who have already shown an interest in nonprofit and human-rights causes and turn that interest into meaningful conversations and long-term monthly support.

Your initial fundraising work may involve issues such as:

  • Refugee and migrant rights

  • Civil liberties and human rights

  • Discrimination and equality

  • Reproductive rights

  • Communities affected by conflict or displacement

  • Humanitarian aid

  • Support for children and families

Campaign assignments can change, so future work may involve different nonprofit causes.

This is not cold calling. Your $19 starting wage is guaranteed - this is not commission-only sales.

What You'll Do

You'll:

  • Speak with nonprofit supporters by phone

  • Discuss serious social and human-rights issues with empathy and confidence

  • Ask questions and build genuine rapport

  • Turn complex issues into understandable, compelling stories

  • Explain how nonprofit organizations are taking action

  • Ask supporters to become long-term monthly donors

  • Respond thoughtfully to questions, concerns and objections

  • Work toward clear fundraising goals

  • Participate in ongoing coaching, workshops and feedback

Fundraising Is Part Advocacy, Part Storytelling and Part Ask

You don't need previous fundraising experience.

But you do need to be comfortable talking about important issues and directly asking someone to support the work financially.

Strong fundraisers can communicate conviction without becoming aggressive.

They listen.

They adapt.

They can have a difficult conversation, hear "no" and approach the next call with the same energy.

We provide paid training and ongoing coaching to help you develop those skills.

This Is a Full-Time Position

We're currently building a small, reliable U.S. team.

You must be able to consistently commit to 40 hours per week.

Fundraising shifts take place Monday-Friday and are scheduled within our calling windows.

This isn't intended as casual remote work or a side job. We're looking for people who want to develop professionally, become strong fundraisers and contribute consistently to the team.

Before You Apply - Check Your Technology

Working remotely requires the right setup.

You must have:

  • A desktop or laptop running Windows 11 or newer

  • Reliable high-speed internet with at least 50 Mbps download / 30 Mbps upload

  • Wired headset with microphone

  • Private, quiet workspace

  • Reliable internet - wired Ethernet strongly preferred

  • Basic technical confidence and ability to troubleshoot simple issues

MacBooks are not compatible with our calling system.

You'll complete a technology check during the hiring process, including an internet speed and voice connection test.

If you don't currently have the required computer and internet setup, you won't be able to move forward.

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You:

  • Are a confident and engaging communicator

  • Care about human rights, humanitarian issues or social impact

  • Can talk about serious subjects with empathy and maturity

  • Can tell a story that keeps someone's attention

  • Are comfortable making a direct fundraising ask

  • Can persuade without pressuring

  • Are resilient when you hear "no"

  • Like working toward measurable goals

  • Take coaching and feedback seriously

  • Can remain focused and accountable while working remotely

Experience in advocacy, communications, theatre, education, hospitality, customer service, sales, public speaking, community organizing or nonprofit work can translate particularly well.

Your Voice Is Your Tool

You won't have body language or a handshake to help build a connection.

Strong phone fundraisers use their voice to communicate warmth, confidence, urgency, empathy and conviction.

As part of the application process, we'll ask you to submit a short voice or video introduction.

No professional recording is required. We want to hear who you are, how you communicate and what you're passionate about.

Compensation & Growth

Guaranteed hourly wage - not commission.

  • $19-$24/hour

  • Starting rate: $19/hour

  • Opportunities to increase your hourly rate based on hours worked, performance and consistency

  • Performance-based bonuses and incentives

  • Paid training

  • Paid time off

  • Benefits after 3 months of full-time employment

  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement

Strong performers can earn more as they develop their fundraising skills and consistently meet their goals.

Schedule
  • 40 hours per week required

  • Monday-Friday

  • Fundraising shifts scheduled between 11 AM and 9 PM in your local time

  • No weekend work to start

  • Consistent availability required

Why Public Outreach?

You'll join a team where fundraising is treated as a professional skill.

You'll receive paid training, ongoing coaching, workshops and feedback while learning how to turn conversations about important issues into action.

If you're a strong communicator who wants to use your voice for meaningful work - and you're ready for the challenge of asking people to act - we'd love to hear from you.

Public Outreach is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome, and accommodations are available throughout the hiring process.

Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
