A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche’s Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximising these opportunities.

The Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.

Within the CoE organisation, the Data and Digital Catalyst organisation drives the modernization of computational and data ecosystems and integration of digital technologies across Research and Early Development to enable our stakeholders, power data-driven science and accelerate decision-making.

The Opportunity:

The Research & Early Development Architect is a strategic technology and organizational leader who operates at the intersection of scientific enablement, digital transformation and digital strategy.

In this role, you will help shape and drive a modern enterprise architecture vision across Research & Early Development to enable a scalable and cohesive digital ecosystem that supports scientific innovation, seamless data integration, and AI-enabled discovery.

Success in this role requires the ability to act as a trusted advisor, partnering closely with scientists, engineers, product leaders, and senior stakeholders. You will use strong systems thinking to align diverse stakeholder groups across organizational boundaries, balancing immediate research needs and pragmatic delivery with long-term enterprise strategy.

This is a high-visibility opportunity to position yourself at the absolute forefront of BioTech innovation. By unifying the architectural offering of two world-class scientific powerhouses (gRED and pRED), your leadership will directly compress the timeline from computational discovery to life-saving patient therapies.

The role combines enterprise architecture leadership with transformation enablement, governance, and cross-functional collaboration to help modernize the Research & Early Development technology landscape.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the definition and evolution of a modern enterprise architecture vision, including principles, governance, standards, and reusable patterns.

  • Guide strategic technology and architecture decisions across Research & Early Development while balancing innovation, scalability, compliance, and operational sustainability.

  • Influence and align senior stakeholders across scientific, business, and technology organizations to drive cohesive enterprise outcomes.

  • Partner with leaders across the CoE, gRED, pRED, and Roche Informatics to support enterprise-wide collaboration and harmonization.

  • Support transformation initiatives that modernize legacy ecosystems into modular, interoperable, and scalable digital platforms.

  • Drive architectural thinking that enables seamless data flow, integration, automation, and AI/ML capabilities across the organization.

  • Facilitate architectural governance and decision-making processes in a way that enables agility while maintaining enterprise alignment.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches to support future scientific and business needs.

  • Contribute to the development of reference architectures, strategic roadmaps, and architectural guidance that support both current and future organizational priorities.

  • Mentor and influence technical teams and architecture communities to foster collaboration, consistency, and technical excellence.

Who You Are:

We are looking for a leader with the following qualifications and experience:

Leadership & Influence

  • You are an effective communicator and relationship builder who can engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • You have demonstrated experience influencing senior leaders and driving alignment across complex, matrixed organizations.

  • You act as a trusted advisor who can facilitate strategic discussions, challenge assumptions constructively, and help organizations make informed decisions.

  • You have experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and fostering a culture of partnership, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Strategic & Enterprise Thinking

  • You can think holistically across business processes, data, applications, technology, and organizational capabilities.

  • You understand how to balance long-term enterprise strategy with pragmatic delivery needs and organizational realities.

  • You have experience supporting enterprise transformation initiatives in large and complex organizations.

  • You are able to connect technology decisions to scientific, operational, and business outcomes.

Architecture & Technology

  • You hold a PhD + 6-13 yrs, MS + 8-16 yrs or a BS + 11-18 yrs of relevant work experience in a scientific or technical field with 8+ years of experience (Senior Principal Engineer); PhD + >12 yrs, MS + >15, or BS + >17 yrs of relevant work experience (Enterprise Architect).

  • You have experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or related strategic technology roles within complex environments.

  • You possess a strong understanding of modern enterprise and digital architecture concepts, including cloud, integration, data, and AI-enabled ecosystems.

  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, biotech, or regulated environments is preferred.

  • Familiarity with modern architectural approaches and digital technologies is beneficial, including cloud platforms, distributed systems, data platforms, and modern software engineering practices.
