POSITION SUMMARY
The Research Laboratory Supervisor is involved in successful execution and completion of all DNWest’s service to local and national research institutions and works towards maximizing DNWest’s goal to increase its involvement in clinical research applications. This role may be called on to perform the duties of a Research Laboratory Technician with the added responsibility of providing guidance and counsel to team Research Program Interns and monitoring weekday activities in the Lab.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Laboratory Oversight:
- Monitors all activities at the Research Lab at DNWest’s Norris Canyon location and communicates about weekday activities to the Senior Director of Research Programs.
- Participates in Brain Procurement at Norris Canyon.
- Processes organs and tissues in the Research Lab.
- Oversees scheduling of the two Research Interns and provides mentoring and guidance to the Research Interns.
- Is the primary role supervising all research tissue inventory.
- Assists in the enforcement of all safety and security measures related to research department.
- Offers samples to researchers.
Research Laboratory Technician Tasks:
- Reviews and researches project background and status with mentor.
- Participates in all phases of research including planning, preparation, calibration, application, evaluation, data analysis, and maintenance.
- Makes novel observations.
- Collects and interprets data.
- Draws sound scientific conclusions based on data analyses. The results of these studies and the conclusion generated, will impact research plans and advancement decisions on experimental materials.
- Presents project reviews before colleagues and peers.
- Participates in all aspects of offering samples for research and procurements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques including deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) isolation and quality control, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and histological tissue processing.
- Familiarity with DNWest’s Research Lab operations and activities.
- Ability to communicate with DNWest staff and scientists.
- Ability to communicate well with Research Program Interns and to demonstrate and explain technical job requirements and functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Science or equivalent plus at least 1 year of work experience.
- Experience working in DNWest’s Research Laboratory
- Experience working in a pathology or immunology related laboratory is preferred.
