OpenAI is looking for an RF + Baseband Engineer to design, integrate, and optimize the signal chain for next-generation wireless products. You’ll work across RF front-end and baseband systems—covering design, simulation, PCB layout, bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting—while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, multi-radio solutions. This role spans the full product lifecycle, from early architecture to high-volume production.

Key Responsibilities
  • RF Front-End Design

    • Design, simulate, and implement RF circuits (LNA, PA, filters, mixers, matching networks) for wireless transceivers.

    • Review PCB layouts to ensure RF integrity and minimize interference.

    • Develop and optimize coexistence solutions for multi-radio systems (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, GPS, Cellular).

  • Baseband Design & Integration

    • Design and validate baseband circuits, including power, digital, and clock management.

    • Collaborate with digital and analog engineers to ensure seamless signal chain integration.

    • Work closely with vendors during early firmware and hardware bring-up, addressing interface and driver-level issues.

  • Testing & Debugging

    • Perform bring-up, calibration, and lab testing of RF and baseband hardware.

    • Develop and refine factory test procedures, supporting manufacturing ramp-up.

    • Investigate and troubleshoot field issues, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Collaboration & Documentation

    • Define RF and baseband specifications in partnership with firmware and system teams.

    • Maintain detailed documentation, including schematics, test plans, and design reports.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • Experience in RF, analog, or mixed-signal circuit design.

  • Proven expertise in wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, LTE, GPS).

  • Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals (impedance matching, S-parameters, and signal integrity).

  • Proficiency with simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, CST) and PCB design software (Altium, Cadence).

  • Familiarity with baseband signal processing, timing synchronization, and mixed-signal interfaces.

  • Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high-volume consumer electronics or IoT devices.

  • Knowledge of global regulatory compliance testing (FCC, CE, etc.).

  • Understanding of coexistence and desense testing methodologies.

  • Exposure to factory test development and high-volume production support.
